I wouldnt worry - if ur supervisor is co-writing they will make sure its of a sufficient standard. Remember papers will not be accepted for publication if theyre not good - so you will soon find out!! Everyones first couple papers arent amazing!!

Well considering this is called 'find a phd' it is natural to assume that this is somwhere they can ask for a phd..esp internatonal students.

I agree with DanB (again). They bring it upon themselves, they are too lazy. End of discussion

Many students doing a Biochemistry degree don't actually do biochemistry, they might be doing more cell biology or molecular biology but recieve a degree in biochemistry because that is the degree the department gives all students by default.

I don't think that it really matters- more important will be the reputation of your supervisor, the publications you get out of your PhD and the actual subject of your PhD. If an employer is looking for someone with a specific profile they will not be bothered about the type of degree.

one of my lecturers really got me down this past week. she said that most students publish in their last year of the phd - students who try to publish early don't produce good work. i already have working papers and i just began my phd. advice. did any of you publish earlier?

Publications
G

I had one publication in NAR when I applied- but this is not that unusuall, because I spent 9 months full time in the lab (with no lectures) to obtain my Diploma (which is like a MPhil). As I was the only person who applied for the two PhDs on offer I don't think that my publication was an advantage ....

Mr DJ won't you turn the music up?

[Don't worry DJ, fear is a very normal part of being a PhD student! A bit of 'fear' or apprehension about your work is an ok thing, it keeps you motivated and striving to do your best, but don't let it overwhelm you. Make sure you keep things in perspective and play as hard as you work. All the best]
