Well if you dont want to discontinue your job then surely you should find a PhD in Mumbai that you can do part time. Hence why are you posting on a UK site?

Best things about PhDs....
G

You get satisfaction when you get results and know things work. However it is a long and sometimes tedious process so that's probably when the feeling of loneliness creeps in and saps your motivation! Hence the no of downbeat posts! But it's good to air your probs rather than keep them bottled up or you'll go crazy! It's also better to do it here as people understand the process whereas others might not!

I agree with Gina. It is definitely much better doing your own research into stuff you care about and interested in tnan being being in an office environment or a job you don't like!

Opinion on Cranfield University
G

I'm doing environmental change stuff in the midlands so it's very different to my undergrad stuff. I didn't go to Cranfield but heard of it through my course. Landfill regulations ...... argh it's all coming back to me!! ;)

Loser

Keep going! You will get there and there will be a project for you! New projects come up all the time so don't worry about how long it takes to get one! One year is not a very long time! Just believe that you'll get one!

Try to get some work experience in your field as that'll definitely help. If you can't get paid work try volunteering as that'll show you're keen! Just apply for everything and get your application/name circulating and you never know what you might end up and who might be interested! Good references are very important! Good luck. :)

EU funding
G

I have tried to find funding so that I can cover my living expenses, but there is no funding available for EU students. I have searched on this website and hundreds of others, but there is not a single one! Just mention one single funding source for a postgraduate EU citizen (Swedish) in the field of physics. There is no point if the source is a highly competitive stipend, and almost impossible to get. This is a matter of having money for food and accommodation, or I have to pack my bags and leave.
Thank you

Yeh i had my first week...try going to the gym - that sorted me out 2day, it does help. Try to join some clubs and societies - but whatever u do - start at the beginning so they can become part of your routine.

Well I shall need some destressing tomorrow after I see my supervisors and realise I have nothing much to talk about... Well apart from the fact I've been out partying quite a bit this past week...

mmmmmm...coffee and chocolate, you are right, that beats the book and bath everytime! Good luck with your PhD btw, it's a sensible idea to develop your ideal de-stressing method now before things really take off ;o)

I agree, lager and football aren't great. Try the hot bath/book combo, you might like it!
