I'd agree that going abroad can help to broaden people's minds etc. The reason I came here though was because I believed at the time that research institutes in Germany are generally better funded/equipped. I discovered though that that's all very well, but if the quality of the work that goes on is such that there is little to gain from it, there really is no point. There is probably regular employment abroad for British people who are drawn to the experience of living abroad, but research-wise I really wouldn't recommend coming here!

I didn't find your thread, but on a more general level I think that experiencing different views on research is exactly why people should go abroad. The world of science is international and the more we learn from each other the better. Then again, doing a PhD abroad might not be the best way, because it takes several years and there might be problems with funding. It's probably easier as an undergrad or a postdoc.

I am a Post graduate in Microbiology. I am interested in pursuing PhD. PhD opportunities are there but finding Funding is the major problem. Though I have a research experience of 3 years its very hard for me to get funding. I want to know more about the funding and critei\rias for obtaining funding.

This really is a great website. However, I really think the tone is lowered by those people expecting others to help them find a PhD or funding for their PhD when they clearly haven't made the first effort to do it alone. It's also off-putting for those of us who genuinely want to make a helpful contribution. What are these people expecting to gain by posting such messages?

there's no magical method to find funding, you just have to search on the internet just like everyone else.

u can search the link funding in this site or directly contact ur prospected supervisor for funding

Hi Cathy. One of the other postdocs has been noting what is happening. The one I am having trouble with is going away for 6 weeks next month, so that could be a blessing. But during all this, my experiments all seem to be working...just now!
