Great Pt-Time Opportunity for PhD's in India
G

These guys are taking PhD's in Chem/Bio/Comp Sci/Econ/Math.

U.S. students post problems, and name a price they are willing to pay.

Then if you (a PhD) see a problem you are capable of helping them with - you solve it, and you get paid to do so!

www.brainbuy.org

We are given 2/3rds of the amount the student pays! Profits go to charity!

They'll send you a login/pass to view questions. Next you login, view questions, post solutions and they will have cheques sent toyou IF YOU ARE IN INDIA.

Getting back after applying
G

don't really know. usually it takes a week for the letters to be delivered and sometimes loooooooooooong time for them to consider your application. so you v still got the opportunity to be accepted

Getting back after applying

I sent in an application over Easter and have heard nothing back yet. Application deadline past three weeks ago. How long do I have to wait for news?

CDL Loans
G

Like my most student I have obtained a bad credit history. I am due to finish my course, I hope for a 2.1 so I may be able to apply for funding from my future University but if I get a 2.2 I will have to turn to a CDL loan. I am worried that I wont get one because of my history. I would be very grateful for any advice here.

Quitting

I know how you feel because I am having the same situation! At the beginning, people were formal with me, and now after 7 months, I see nothing has changed and just a question Neil, are they training you or explaining u anything? Because I feel so lost, the supervisor tell me about experiments I could do, then he leaves me on it, all alone. Another guy has worked with the device already, and he does not show anything to me!! I am desperate for him to show me, each time they would have an excuse. They are not really "cooperating"...so I just wanted to know whether tis the same for u! If the people don't like u, I don't see why u have to bother with telling them about quitting...Or is the supervisor really very nice with u?

Getting a second chance
G

Sorry, I hadn't seen your earlier message...Personally, I think you should try to meet as many other people as possible, through clubs/societies for example. Once you've established a few worthwhile friendships outside of your department, maybe your fellow researchers behaviour will bother you less. With these kinds of things, they seem to become worse and worse the more worked up you get about them.

Getting a second chance

Even if you could start another, would there any way to guarantee that you won't have similar problems with the people at the new lab? Worse still, you could end up with a bad supervisor.

If i quit, do i have to pay my sponsorship money back?
G

Is there any way to find ouot for sure, without having to give the game away to my sponsors?????

stinking interview questions
G

A question that popped up for me a couple of times was "What do you think is the most useful discovery in your field over the past 30 years?" Apart from that, the usual why you want to do a PhD and what makes you suited to it questions should be expected.

PhD Salaries
G

startign salaries for lecturers are 21K.
was in the new scientist. takes a while for a new lecturer to get upto 30K

Getting a second chance
G

hello again. it will be next to impossible to get another phd if you quit this one. competition is very high and supervisors are unlikely to take a chance on you.

Have you tried telling your supervisor how you feel and talking to the others in the lab.
I had a similar problem but 9 months on things are much better.
It seems a shame to jack in a project you like cos of the people you work with. Try makinf friends with thise from other research groups.
