Anyone knows which unis in UK are offering Ph.D programme on environmental sciences with full funding.

Thank you in advance

I would really research the area you will live in cos living in an place you dont like will make the best phd miserable.
And definitely join a bigger research group - mine is small and very isolated.
And dont go for an old supervisor they are usually winding down and no longer ambitious.

I am settled into my PhD now but I hate the city I moved too. Have dabbled with the idea of going elsewhere and taking an MPhil from here. But then I probably wouldn't get another post.

UMIST
G

Which department?

UMIST is merging with Manchester Uni this October and Manchester Uni has a top class reputation. So i guess you needn't worry but i might know the department you are interested in.

It's not what you know.................
G

Don't worry, you're not alone! I've applied and applied and applied and now I've just stopped. With good marks and a years experience, I feel like I've wasted four years work, and the constant worry is driving me mad. Does anyone out there have any advice on this - is it, or was it, this hard for everyone else?

Great website!!!

Thats so true, I have had the same problem! I think its the FindAPHD team's responibility to ensure that their website is as up to date as possible, not leaving it up to the accademics.

PhD interview

Comments from Pippo are SO HELPFULL, I was asked what were my hobbies, that kinda threw me!

Repeating a year
G

Skip, what is your degree in and what sort of PhDs are you applying for? I mean are you applying to PhDs where you have little or no background of the subject?

What does it take?
G

...... I've come to the conclusion that i need a masters in the right department, so that hopefully I'll be able to stay with them to do a PhD.

What does it take?
G

Sounds like sound advice Steve. But I've got a first class degree and 2 years of very relevant experience and still haven't got as much as an interview. I think you need to know someone in the right department - I'm sure I'd have no trouble if i wanted to stay in my original department, but I don't! Maybe my applications are not good enough, but I don't see how I can improve that as I already spend hours and hours on each one.

another point - don't study in a small research group. big group = more chance of clicking with at least some of them!!!!!

I have recently decided to give up on my PhD and start from the beginning at a new uni, new project. I am almost 2yrs into this one but after certain health problems and difficulties with my experimental work, have decided to start fresh. I have thought about giving it another try (after all it's only another year!) but I do not think it will get me there after all. I believe that I can manage to start over, and just want to hear some comments what other students would of done in my shoes?!
