I'm a programme officer for integrated communty based development in Sudan. This kind of programmes are supported by many Int. organistion. Many evalutions were conducted and prove to be a viable approach. I'm intending to do a PhD resarch in this area "Integrated participatory community based development" with focus on particular region in Sudan. I may take examle of one project assisted by an Int. organisation. I need an advice how can I address this (topic, scope of the study, title ...etc
I appreciate any advice and assiatant on this regard.

...I can completely understand the reasoning behind the 2i or above policy of research councils, but I believe the circumstances surrounding my having performed badly for my first degree are exceptional, since I was experiencing health problems at the time - for which I could obtain a medical note for if I had to. My question is; will it ever be possible for me to be accepted for an EPSRC-funded PhD or not? If so, how should I approach things during the application stage? Can anyone comment? Findaphd team?

I'm at the moment starting to look around for funded PhD's and I've noticed that a sizeable proportion of them are funded by the EPSRC for my subject area. My problem is that although I already have an MPhil and one year's research experience overseas, plus 2 years industrial experience, I am anxious that any application I submit will be instantly thrown in the bin because of the 2i rule.

After having been rejected within 5 minutes of having sent my CV to a professor (because of "research council rules"), I tried to email the EPSRC directly but recieved a non-committal reply......

I really wnat to do a phd in marine biology but i dont have any idea on how to go about getting funding. I am expecting a 2.1 degree and have good references. Also, am i too late to apply?

I wouldnt worry too much about you - I found most places can't get the funding to offer people places. Try applying for those with funding already agreed, get a reference from work if you havent already and really make the most of your experience on your CV.

This depends on what the general area of the PhD is. If it is a chemistry Phd then without good chemical theory you will find it very difficult to complete. However if it is in another area with some chemical applications or some minor chemical work needed then you will probably be ok if you work on your theory. Post more info and I will be able to give better advice - I am a chemist.

maybe they are checking your references and people haven't replied yet? Or it might be that they are waiting for the closing date for applications before they do interviews. It must take age to look through all the applicantsn for a position!

I did receive an acknowledgement at the time of application. The supervisor told me that he will give my application serious consideration. There is no problem with nationality and the topic is directly related to my previous studies. I did not use bulk mail technique.
I have not heard anything since then.
