USA Qualifications?
G

Why dont you just save yourself 50K and 2/3 years of your life and do a PhD in the UK? The first year or two of an American PhD are taken up with classes etc - do you really wanna be doing that? I would seriously think about it. Also, it costs about £100 to do the GRE exam, and on average about £50 per university application. Even if that doesnt bother you, a UK PhD is more highly regarded generally than a US PhD (although im sure some on here will disagree).

ORS Deadlines

Imm, don't worry too much. Universities will get back to work next week. So just keep an eye on your e-mail box and pigeon hole from Monday. and if you didn't get any replies on Monday, you still need to worry, because most of the professors have their office hours on Tuesday. Good luck, and you do have time and chance

thres, March/April will be too late for ORS application, cz as I know you must get the admission from an institution before 2 Feb if you want to apply ORS. but what did you mean by trying Bath University? is this university a special case?

Funding in Ireland
G

I've had an interview for a PhD in Ireland which went really well but I need to find funding. I can apply for a grant from ircset (an Irish initiative) but are there any other grants (European?)I can apply for to give me more chance as it is competitive? I'm a home UK student but I am moving to Ireland anyway and really want to do this PhD.

Applying to 2 supervisors

Alternatively, you can send your research proposal to administrator and he/she may know which person you'd better to go to, or he/she may ask the two professors to negociate between themselves. Anyway, it will even strenthen your application, cz it seems your research fits into the department very well.

although this is sth like a joke, but this really happened to me: in my application cover letter, I wrote: "Dear Sir/Madam, I wish to apply University of Eat Anglia ..." Well, with such letter, I think University of EAST Anglia will not take the trouble of looking at my material before they turn me down. :)Sometime, don't trust MS word too much, though it can correct some spelling mistakes. :)

Research Assistant

Is it a good idea to apply for the position of Research Assistant instead of PhD?
That way we can be paid while working towards a PhD.

Applying to 2 supervisors

Several academics are ego-maniacs. My Masters supervisor was really upset when I contacted another supervisor to discuss a possible PhD. My Masters supervisor told me to get out of his office.
