Age should not be a major problem, espically i you have worked in a similar field before. Dont let the age factor put you off-many people apply for medicine when they are 30 as well, so dont worry too much

Hi maybe you may find it a bit harder than some people straight out of university. but any relivant work expernce is an advantage-so use that the best you can :) . Try the open university they are very good for mature students. ALso if you are self funding that should make things a tiny bit easir -GOOD LUCK.

I am 36. I started working after gaining a Masters. Now I want to join the field of research. My question is that is it too old to start a PhD at 36 or 37?
And will I face problems getting a job after finishing a PhD at 41 or 42?

epidemiology

asking about PhD of epidemiology by research in Denmark, Sweden, Finland or Norway

Is this allowed?
G

Assuming that little else separates two candidates in terms of academic merit or experience, etc...... Even if they don't explicitly say it, it's likely that some slight preference will be given to students graduating from the same university.

Are pre-university qualifications important?
G

I think it's unwise for a recruiter to place too much emphasis on high school results. I was pretty immature and underachieved but then grew up a lot during the BSc and am on for a 1st now.

2:1 WITH 59%
G

Anon, 59% is usually considered a borderline 2:1. At our University that means you might be considered for a 2:1 on the basis of high coursework grades, good Viva, etc.

That is a very high first. (1H)

Thanks, ella, but what if the university does not enjoy very good reputation at the reseach area? I mean, i'm not eligable to apply some very good universities. anyway, you may also find some gossips in the subject of 'what to wear' :) And Jamie, thanks very much!

What to wear!?
G

Question:"why you want to do a phD?" answer:" why not?" Question:"what you want to do after it?" answer:"do a post-doctor." :) I think in this way i can get a good excuse for not studying anymore. Anyway, thanks ella. your suggestions are very helpful

Is it worth doing an MPhil if i already have a MSc?
G

Nancy, I think it depends on whether you are invloved in science or arts. I don't know much about science, but if you're involved in arts, you can apply a Mphil first (you're right, this is easier), and after 2 years' study, your academic capability can be improved, your supervisor will know you more, and it is very possible for you to discuss with your supervisor on whether you're eligable to further another year's study for a phd degree. Anyway, you can get 2 years to improve your academic capability
