I have just graduated in molecular biology in Poland so I'm not a student now. I would like to start PhD in UK. Poland will become a member of EU at May 2004, so I'm not eligible to most foundings yet. Do I have to wait until the next year to apply for scholarship? Or should I start now?

I am stifled! Any hope?

Was diverted due to political circumstances in my country- was brilliant - academic school to 18 - did badly at scientific A levels away from home, depressed (little money ) - had to work to live! - started evening course (Biology) at Birkbeck demanding job husband - final year had baby!- result wasdisasterous 3rd class - One yr post grad in teaching - did not work well - have good brain & speak a number of languages well - mad enthusiasm to pick up the pieces and be the top academic student once and fulfill what I should have been acomplishing if all had been well

When is the key time of year for PhDs being advertised? I know they are all year round as & when the funding becomes available, but is there a kind of core time when they are released? A couple of supervisors I've spoken to have said thet they will be advertised Jan/Feb time? Is this true or is it just their particular ones?

Funding with a 2(ii) + MSc
G

I graduated a few years ago and wish to return to research and do a phd. However I missed out on a 2:1 by 0.2%, after graduating I did a MSc in a closely related subject. With this in mind do you think I will be able to find phd funding, or should I just go back to my original university and shout at my former lecturers....(I am a UK national looking for a phd in the UK)

Research Council Stipulations
G

Which research councils are the ones that stipulate a 2i or higher? I have found that the BHF and MRC stipulate a 2i, so I wasn't sucessful with my 2ii + MSc. I was just wondering if any other funding bodies have this stipulation? Cheers, Jim *:0)
