I want to do a PhD in the conseqences for personal moral responsibity and recent research in genetics. (determinism ! )Where can I find a supervisor who is a specialist in both philosophy and genetics ? Anybody know of any good web sites or university departments ?

Message: I have done M.Sc. in Biotechnology from a reputed univeristy in India and involved in a research Porject for past 2 years and still continuing in the same place. I wish to apply for PhD in Germany. How can I go about it?

Could anyone offer any advice? I'm about to finish my MSc but am not really enjoying the writitng up of my project. I ultimately want to work in industry and a PhD would give me a head start with my career. As I'm not enjoying the writing I am now thinking is it worth the pain of writing a thesis to boost the starting point of my career? It's probably worth noting that I do enjoy the practical part my project and the background to it. I just find it difficult to write in a technical manner without borrowing too much(although referenced) from other sources. Any tips for doing that or is it just something you have or you don't?

Just wondering how long it takes to get accepted onto a PhD? I know it varies and depends on your circumstances etc, but I've been trying to get on one for what feels like forever (6 mnths! Even tho I have wide areas of intrest & haven't been that fussy as to what I apply to I've had no joy!

I am asking that to see what you people did, because I am in a very difficult situation right here, and if you know some way out, please give me some directions.

I have an ORDINARY BSc degree because all the academics in my University were racists. Only a small number of them acted like there was someone around when I was in the lab or the tutorials. I feel pitty for them.

One way to do it is to ask your academics if they have any contacts with German Universities or Institutes. The next think to do is to search in the web the top 10-15 Universities in Germany and then go to each individual site and search forwhat you want........A third option (which is a bit expensive!) is to buy a plane ticket and go to Germany yourself and combine vacations with job hunting!

I have an ordinary BSc degree in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from Leeds University, and I have also an MSc Distinction degree in Food Safety and Quality Management. I recently worked in a funded research project in genome dynamics for 4 months as well (part of my MSc thesis).

Could anyone please tell me any ideas of what are my options with all these in the future? Do I have opportunities to get a good job? I am very worried.

In what way would employers prejudice against Oxbridge doctorates? A side question: those companies which sponsor a doctoral student via CASE awards, do they normally employ the student they sponsored after the student has completed the doctorate?

I see. But would a doctorate from Oxbridge be as highly regarded as an Oxbridge undergraduate degree?

No, far from it in fact. It all depends on the department, the supervisors, publications, level of funding etc etc. Its not as clear cut as the undergraduate situation.
