phd without a master?
G

I've just started a PhD straight from my undergrad but my first year is basically a masters then I transfer into year 2 of the PhD. This is a new rule in my dept - everyone needs to do the masters but it counts as our first year.

How to get through

hmmm... the no-strings-attached "encounter" sounds fun :)

Oh I'm becoming more and more jealous of the rest of the world for PhD only being 3 years long... The white russians help for when it's 11pm and I'm too wound up on work-chaos to even pretend to relax before sleeping... What's abseiling?

And thanks for moving this post to the right section.

Should I get Endnote or Reference Manager? I can't tell the difference.

what have I let myself in for?

i have started now just been reading sorting out admin and stuff. I don't see my supervisor because he doesn't do anything in the lab. He says i should not be doing anything else yet...but i think the head of the group I'm in thinks differently!

phd without a master?

Yes, of course. But you must have the right degree class (1st or 2:1). Then again, getting a PhD is competitive, so its also about experience. So in theory if you had a masters, you would have more experience, but there is no harm in you applying with just a bachelors degree. I know lots of people that have started PhDs without masters, then again I know lots of people that have masters. I got a 2:2 so had to get a masters degree, but I also got the project because of previous experience

How long????

Mine was sorted in a week, I enquired on thursday, invited to interview on the monday and offered the place on wednesday. But the uni i am at did all the interviews in one day.
