We spend years and huge amount of money to pursue the PhD degree. As i know, most PhD go to be staff in universities and poorly paid. does it worth if i want to do business? Thanks!

Yeh i would agree with the point below from the very helpful team here :). I often chopped and changed my refs depending on where i was applying and what i was applying to. Luke warm refs are no good. All i can say is keep plugging away, it will all come good eventually i promise!!!

Hello mate, i seem to have been pretty sucessful with my applications this year (i managed to get a PhD and had 3 interviews, all at 5* uni's) and all of them involved a CV sending step, if you know what i mean :). If you want, i could email you a copy of mine, which might give you a few ideas.

My tutor has reccommended that I do MChem as it will help my chances of getting a phD and/or getting a better salary in industry! Is this true?

I remember then rector of imperial intorduced in three lines the meaning of a PhD in year 1981.First year the supervisor giudes you.Second year you are equal to the supervisor in knowledge in that field.Third year you teach a thing or two to the supervisor.Now you get your phd.

If you have 2.2 and a master there is no reason to doubt your ability to do your phd.I happened to have published original work after master on my own.I have presented papers worldwide without a phd.

It is possible that relatively you might have got 2.2.or 3rd class.
I know that some one got 2.2 has done well as a phd student,now he is a senior profesor and head of engineeringwhereas some one got 2.1 in the same batch still a senior lecturer. some faculty are envy of bright students and ruined some. At the end of the day you know your capabilities. one got 1st class in the second year and a pass degree.but he knows his capability and now got phd and a leading researcher.

I work for a very prestigious university and can tell you that in my lab an advertisement was only put out AFTER they found the person they wanted. Blatantly stating that they have to do it in order to comply with university regulations.... but it was just for show!

It seems that i have exactly the same problem as yours. I have a prof. who is willing to be my supervisor upon my research interest in Modelling Multiphase Slugging in Pipeline. He has approved my research proposal. since the scholarship scheme, which i rely on is very competitive. I have to find the other sources to fund my PhD, in case it fails. But i still don't have any clues at all.

I also feel that the decision for a position is done in a short time as if it were known at the time of announcement(in many cases, but not in all). I have also applied soon after the announcement but have replied that the position was recently filled up. I don't know if people offering position already have identified someone to start the same.
