Poor A levels + BSc 2i + MSc Distinction = Oxbridge??
G

My 'A' level grades weren't brilliant but I have now been accepted on to a Ph.D. It takes determination and of course finding the right institution helps! A University is only as good as you make it. It doesn't matter where you go - as long as you are happy.

Masters or PhD?

Do a masters or MRES (master of research) It will do you no harm at all, and the MRES will give you a taste of research life, afterwards it will only help you to get the perfect PHD studentship

Masters or PhD?
G

I graduated with a 1st in Biomedical Sciences in 2001. After doing office work I'd now like a career in research. But I can't decide whether to do a Masters or PhD. I don't have much lab experience, which is why a Masters may be the best option to start with, but a PhD would be a better qualification to have. But I'm not sure I'd get a good PhD with my lack of experience. Or I could try to get a lab technician job? Any advice would be very much appreciated.

BSc then PhD?

It's either a 2:1 or it isn't. If it is, then there should be no problems.

What is BSc 2ii + 2 x MSc = ?
G

An alternative qualification or combination of qualifications and experience which clearly demonstrate equivalent knowledge and ability may exceptionally be accepted at NERC's discretion. For a candidate that does not hold a first or upper second class degree in an appropriate subject, possession of an MSc degree will not automatically be accepted as an adequate qualification for a research studentship, and strong and specific reasons will still be needed for an exception to be made.

A good suggestion. If you look at our FAQs, there is some information on interviews and applying. We do intend to add a dedicated section in the near future.
