How long????
G

Mine only took a couple of weeks. I applied, had an informal chat with the supervisor, and a couple of weeks later I was offered the place. I was asked when I would like to start (January 2004 as I was in a high level job at the time that needed some notice before I could leave), and here I am almost 2 years into it. Loving it at times, tearing my hair (like now!) most of the time!

How long????

It took nearly two months for my decision to come from the interview date but actually 5 months since I applied with my proposal. But as Stu said if the starting date is nearer then they will most probably decide quickly.

Phd Funding in GIS
G

I am a Mtech in GIS from UNSW,Sydney. I want to do a Phd from canada. I wrote to the supervisors. They do agree to take me in their group, but dont say anything about funding. They see first you get in here then we will try to get one. But I am in a fix, if i dont get any funding lateron it would be difficult for me to continue. what should i do?

What Uni is everyone at?

I was just wondering, what uni is everyone attending? What area are you all researching? What year are you in? That sort of thing....

rant
G

No-one ever said research was stress free. Research is annoying, frustrating, stressful etc. Results will rarely go your way, but what makes you a good PhD student is that you look at all the angles, explain why things happen the way they do and develop upon that

Studentship

Now...go get 'em

How long????
G

Depends when the start date is. I have known for this process to take over 3 months. If you need an answer soon, then email them. But don't do this unless it's necessary as it is being a pest.

I want my research proposal
G

I sense arrogance in that question. Perhaps your supervisor doesn't see you to be this know-it-all and wants you to help you along the way, by asking you to do seemingly tedious tasks. If they just left you to it, you would soon moan that they aren't helping you at all.
