I work from home 3-5 days a week. My advisor would rather have me in the office more often - so much that he put a computer in my office the other day! - but I'll still work at home at least 2 days a week I think. You have to be motivated, I think - to be able to get enough done. For me, it's easier and more relaxing to work in my pajamas on my couch than sitting in a stuffy office! Good luck!

I didn't know Mr McWhirter (apologies for previous spelling mistake) had passed away. I know Norris had a twin who was also in the records business. It was Norris that timed the famous 4 minute mile (hence his book entitled 3.59.4), achieved by Roger Bannister in 1954. He was the founder of the Guiness book of records.

Hi thanks for your help, I am just starting my third year of uni so haven't got a degree just yet, I am borderline first- upper second at the moment, and I have relevant experience I recently did a bursary funded summer research project, the results of which could be publishable (fingers crossed!)!

I am currently bigging up my CV to make me sound great and talking to people in my uni deparment! Good tip about emailing supervisors, thats what my careers service advised too! I am also aware that I will probably not be successful in my application this time round, If not I hope to do a masters or some lab technician work so its all extra experience!

hi, I have an idea to search the phd. should we start an effort to support oursleves in info in a new way? if even one in ourself get a chance that will be better than to be skatered in ways without having an exact direction. I am MSc in psy and look to get scholarship. together we can be a little community then we can have a little forrum at any place for every respect. an effort for everybody. we can help each other to get step ahead and can make uptodate to eachother for criterias.

Yeh I'm feeling totally out of my depth too - it is all too new and you're not sure what is expected of you!! there are a few new PhD students starting with me but they are all in a totally different department and totally different subject to me so I am all alone in regards to PhD students. It is so scary!!
