I'm not sure this is available at every Uni, but during my induction at Aston yesterday, they mentioned a "hardship fund". This fund is an emergency fund available to students who may have to otherwise withdraw from their studies due to financial problems.

I would certainly contact your supervisor about these issues. He might be able to offer you some advice. Also, pop into your uni's finance office and speak to an advisor.

I wish you the best of luck with your studies mate!

Too many graduations?

To be honest the 6 hours of travel time will take it out of them and as we have our own business it's not like they can just take the day off. They went to my BSc graduation in the Albert Hall so I guess I'm not that bothered...

I've decided not to bother! I already have one set of photos. Stu, thanks for the congrats....whats the matter with my parents? Very tired from a lot of hard work from the past 27 years, earning loads of money so me and my brother can have ANYTHING we want (and yes I'm a proper daddy's little princess).

No, don't bother with the photos. Mine were awful - on a horrible brwon background. Luckily I had my family take some too - one of THESE is on display at home, not the profesional ones...

Try and get some teaching that is relevant to your own PhD (kills two birds with one stone). Also, don't put too much effort in to preparing...your studies come first.

Hi Jojo. Your posts might have been moved to a different section. I always find my threads moved under different sections. The best thing is to run a search by using "Search Forum" tool on the top right handside of the forum page and put the name you used when you created an entry or joined a thread.

Whats the matter with your parents??? they should be so proud that you have done this. Tell them that is is a disgrace that they are not going. Anyway, I agree that it is better to get pics taken by a mate other than the pros, and congratulations by the way

Graduation photos are NOT a scam. Overpriced, maybe. Professional, yes. But that's up to you to decide H. Personally I'm going to my MSc graduation, but don't really want photos other than those my parents take. But that's your decision H.

are some questions not worth answering. two of my posts have been removed from this site. are phd students who teach not allowed to post their concerns on this site?

I just got the info for my MSc graduation ceremony, my parents have said they don't want to attend, it's too far (thanks mum and dad). The question is, should I bother getting photos done? I already have the stupid grad pic from the first time round, having proud place on our mantle piece at home-yuk!
