Bank of scotland are good - they regard PhD as income, and you only need a 3% deposit.

Well, its the second best university in the world, so take a guess ;-). The shortest answers are "very" and "yes" (depending on subject)

Limerick

What are you studying in Limerick? Limerick is not the most exciting city in the world but is still a nice place to live. The university is in a suburb of the city (a wealthy suburb) and is a very impressive campus. Plenty very decent and reasonably cheap accommodation.

People are friendly and you are close to some great secenery. If you are one for big busy city there are better places but if you are into sport the facilities are great, you are close to some great secenery, there is an airport nearby. Once you get to know the place and a few people then it will be great but might be a bit boring for the first couple of weeks. All said it is a pretty decent place to live and yes there are tennis courts although i do not know how many!

can you apply for more than one aus grant?
G

Hi, I am hoping to study at the uni of melbourne, where there is a great international student scholoarship i want to apply for. problem is, it prob won't be enough with travel expenses and everything, so is it possible for me to apply for another 'top-up' grant? is it strange for a PHD student to have two funding sources? anyone know of anywhere i could look for help with this?

Hi Guys
What is a reasonable number of applications that you can make to the same uni, there are a few projects that I am interested in at one of the 'red brick institutions' but dont want to seem like I'm indecisive (which I am... I think...) Thanks

Application Letter

I am in the process of writing my application letter. I am please with it, though it is quite long but still concise and professional. How long is too long? Are there any essentials which should be included?

Why do a PhD?

I'm with Brair - you have to be completely committed to a PhD. Try a P/T Masters programme - still get a good qualification and can put off men for two years at least.

Thanks - that makes sense. If they have funding for the project NOW (they mention this in the ad.), they'll want a postdoc to match that timescale.
