Thanks for your replies. The problem I have is that my subject is half humanties and half science. So people will tend to follow either structure -so there is some heated debates on the way a thesis should be presented. I think another trip to library to search out some more PhDs is called for.

At my university I can get access to previous PhDs in my department and also through the library.

You could try this and you may see a common structure.

In response to Random: This is what I’ve heard, correct me if I’m wrong. In fact the title of Dr bestowed upon medical practitioners in the UK is an honoury title – hence the reason why consultants revert back to “Mr”.

Hi Hina, Your mind works like many other asian girls! With a PhD mostly people work in academia but some also work for pharmaceutical companies. My parents are on my case too, but thank God the final decision is mine ;, plus with such a highly qualified daughter there won't be many boys who could "match" your skills!

Hi Oala, don't feel down and certainly don't feel ashamed! You don't have to give up on your goals in life just because you feel that, in retrospect, your degree course was perhaps not the best choice for you. I think the FindAPhD team made a very good suggestion, what do you think of this? How about booking an appointment with the careers team at your Uni for a bit of advice about your options? Best of luck for the future.
