Masters & Working

I think it depends on how tough and demanding your course is. I know of people who HAD to work during a really demanding course and it pulled down their grades considerably and they got into a lot of trouble for not handing in work/turning up for lectures. However if you are a well organised person who can go VERY far on lack of sleep, why not?

Student accommodation

University accommodation: The pros - get to meet lots of students and have fun and go out a lot, can be cheap. The cons - can be quite yuk to share with other students (I think we all know that one), can get noisey especially if living with a load of undergrads. Appartment: Pros - peace and quiet (depending on who you live with), clean (ditto), no need to worry about moving out in the hols. cons - lonely and boring (if living by yourself), could get expensive with all the bills etc.

Medicine after PhD

I thought the whole point of the 4 year GRAD courses was to get out as many doctors (practising for the NHS) as quick as possible. Before I did my masters I was considered the 4 year course and came across quite a few people who were finishing PhDs and applying or already had their PhD. There is a really useful website www.medschoolguide.co.uk which has a forum devoted to graduate applicants.

Anon German always gives very helpful, non-judgemental and polite advice. I hope she continues to 'butt in' on a regular basis! :o)

Why do a PhD?
G

Avoiding the marriage and annoying parents is always a satisfying thing. The reason i am doing a PhD is that I am interested in doing research, and really would like to pursue a career in research, either in academia or industry. The funding is a large factor, as not only could I not pay for the fees etc myself, but I have spent over four years as a student getting into large debt

working as a stripper would get you good money, and you can be sociable at the club at the same time. Best of both worlds

Opinion on Cranfield University
G

Well obviously, but do you have any useful opinions on this university?

oh what a **** up
G

I doubt a university would seek publicity by suing students! However, i think it would seem likely they'll hold back your deposits. Lets hope those other lecturers aren't reviewing your work anytime soon ;)

A friend of mine did a full time MA in London last year and worked 16+ hours a week. Think it was pretty tough but she seemed to find time to go out as well so it is possible!

I was wondering how feasible it was to do a masters full time, work part time, and still have some time for being socialable?
