stranded half way with a masters... :(

By the way, what you said in the last post, hardly makes sense.

If the course structure is different to what you were originally told, you could get a refund. You paid for something you didn't get.

I was looking for your course and couldn't find it but then realised it is called "Biosystems and Informatics". I looked up the course and basically, there is one small module on biosystems (7.5 credits), all the others are computing/bioinformatics (15 credits each) ones or related to research.

Did you not look at the course content before paying all that money?

Bioinformatics is all about using biological information and this almost always done via computers.

The fact that me and others said that they had got funding in science wasn't enough? How else do we offer proof? So basically everyone on this site is lying. Actually, I'm not even doing a phd, I've just been sitting at home dossing for the last 2.4 years.

I KNOW EPSRC is for physical sciences which are considered more difficult and less people do them (apparantly). I also know of people who got funding through BBSRC (your area apparantly) with a 2.2. So yes it's possible. Just because it didn't happen to you, doesn't mean it can never ever ever happen.

VeryPoor, I'm not sure what you think Pure Science is but I mean it to be actual science subjects like chemistry, biology, physics rather than computing, social sciences.

If you go back to the thread in question, you will see that you kept saying "That means I can't get funding from rsearch councils or whatever as they only fund people who get a 2:1. This is the case for sciences". I asked you if you had checked at your department, which you never actually replied for and gave me rude replies when I was just trying to help.

My funding for my masters came from the EPSRC. I happen to got funding whilst a guy with a 2.1 didn't. So I guess it doesn't ALWAYS matter what you get for your degree.

UNIVERSITIES REQUIREMENTS AND DEGREE EQUIVALENT

Firstly, can you please not write in CAPS, it makes it annoying to read.

Regarding your question, yes it is possible to do a Masters with a 2ii, a number of people on the forum have done such a course with that grade.

If you want to find a good university that will take you, firstly find all the universities that do the course you want, then look up the RAE of that department and rank them. Starting from the top, take each department in turn and look to see if you must have a 2i or first. Sometimes you may have to contact the department directly.

whats the deal with undergraduate masters?

I think they they give a taster into research, which is handy for a science student to decide if they want to do a PhD (seeing as for most science PhDs you don't need a masters).

Seems to have worked : petition to ban posts like: need money for/ should i do a PhD please help? How to get a PhD?
H

At least we can manage to do a phd in a "sub-standard" university, you couldn't even accomplish that.

Stop writing, you just make yourself look more thick with each post.

Beware of UK supervisors!!

It sounds like you were rubbish and they got rid of you.

IS THERE ANY STRATEGY TO BE ACCEPTED ??
H

You can only have a personal interview if they invite you for one.

What sort of feedback do your supervisors give you after you submit work?
H

Reading all these comments makes me feel really lucky on the supervisors I have!

My main supervisor is great at reading things I give and always tells me what needs more explanation, how I could say things better (has vast experience in publishing), overall thoughts etc.

The other two are pretty good too, always giving positive feedback.

Sounds great Tammy, good luck!

As for verypoor, whenever I read anything you write (or insist is the utter most correct and only possibility) I remember the thread where you insisted that no pure science student could get funding for Masters with a 2.2, even when people who had completed science Masters with funding came along (myself included) and said it was possible. Yes, we are all lying, only verypoor the great master of the world, the all-knowing has the answers to everything.
