I've read book by David Lodge, can't remember which but I did really enjoy his style of writing. Must find some more of his!

I can't wait until I get my own garden, at the moment I only have a balcony :(.

I feel sorry for my plants though, I often go away for weeks so they aren't always getting the best care. My money plant is flourishing , I need to take it home so I can repot it in a bigger pot and add more compost. I just ordered aloe vera plants as well, one for me and one for my grandma (as part of her mother's day gift).

I'm always crying over the sad bits in books! Nothing to be embarrased about!

I haven't read anything by Amy Tan yet. Not sure why I picked it.

Have you read The secrets of Jin-Shei by Alma Alexandra? It was good but I think Snowflower and the secret fan is better.

Another book I love based in China is The girl who played go by Shan Sa. Also The binding chair by Kathryn Harrison is one of my faves. Empress Orchid by Anchee Min is also very good.

oooh, I had forgotten about this thread!

I read Snowflower and the secret fan recently, I loved it too.

I've just done a swap for the Kitchen God's Wife and I should be getting it in the next couple of days. I'm looking forward to reading it!

I'm trying to read The accidental by Ali Smith but I'm finding it difficult to get into, I keep going and reading my older books...quite strange for me...

Council Tax exemption

Yeah it's the same for all councils.

Currently I pay nothing but when my bloke moves in, we will have to pay 75%, around 800 quid I think (maybe more).

I'd rather pay nothing and he can live with his parents.

Are you going to work in your PhD during the summer?
H

I'm probably going to have three-four weeks off as I'm getting married (and going on honeymoon yay can't wait).

I'm working really hard at the moment to conpensate for the big chunk of time off.

Not sure how many others will be following the World Cup this year. At home everyone is cricket mad (including my grandma).

I know Piglet will be following (if she's not busy working :-()

Who is everyone supporting?

I'm supporting India and England as always but quite keen to see Scotland and Canada do well.

oh no!

I love roses!

I ordered from the website, it was the only one I could find that did 21 roses.

Quite reasonably priced I thought but will see how good their service is and whether the recipient gets them on the right day!
