Where to put publication(s) on CV
H

I have to say I agree with 404, it is the norm to have your academic qualifications first on an academic CV and your work experience should follow straight after. Vice versa if you are applying for a job.

Homework? Is this normal?
H

I think it would be difficult for someone who had never done a PhD to know what one entails. Therefore, she may be very knowledgable in her area but she doesn't really understand how she should be supervising you. If she is very easy to talk to, I think you had best have a meeting with her and talk about "tutorials" that she has been giving you and explain you would rather have "supervisions" instead. I think this is very urgent as you could be wasting valuable time from your "real" work.

Addicted to ebay
H

Me and my bloke have been selling "stuff" on ebay recently, basically all his JUNK! However he puts it all on ebay (badly) and then I have to check it and make sure he hasn't lied (its my ebay account). He watches it and gets excited when it sells. Guess who has to find that stuff, clean it, package it and take it to the post office??? grrrr

What do PhD students wear?
H

I wear jeans and trainers whilst at uni but I will dress up a bit more when I visit my CASE company, i.e smart trousers, proper shoes. I think I'm probably a bit more smart when I go to conferences too, who knows who you might meet!

If you are seeing patients and meeting important people all the time, maybe you should try and dress a bit more smart most of the time. Like maybe wear jeans on some days but not trainers with them, etc and then be more smart when you are definately meeting patients etc.

Home sweet home!!!

Hello Athina!

My wedding isn't until the summer, apparantly you were asking Sara about it!

Nice to have you back

Obtaining BSc AFTER MSc and professional qualifications?
H

Sounds like you are trying to collect letters after your name.

Maybe if you could be a bit more specific about WHY you need to have this BSc qualification and how it would help with your career.

So, the UK is crap: official
H

Well if you take a look around you (at the British childred) what do you see?

I personally see a lot of badly-behaved, illiterate, spoilt little thugs.

I think we have a very good education system, unfortunately you have to WANT to want it for it to be any good.

The main problem is the parents. They give the kids too much of everything and many aren't exactly good role-models are they?

What shall I wear???
H

Don't worry Insomniac, I'm not going to try and start riots and start burning flags etc. It would be nice if people were a bit more respectful and less ignorant but I guess that is a lot to ask for.

Well with crosses etc, I know many so-called Christians who wear the cross and then do very un-Christian acts so I guess thats the same thing.

PhD with a 2:1 BSc or 2:2 BSc + Masters. Lost!
H

I would apply to the Masters but not the PhD at the same university (I guess its the same department). However I would also apply to other universities for a PhD, if possible. To be honest you don't sound that confident and unless you are good at hiding it, it would come through at interview etc.

If you really feel confident, then apply to the phd at the university and if you don't get in, then ask if you can do the Masters instead.

What shall I wear???
H

Insomniac, suprisingly many hindus (like myself for example) don't appreciate non-hindus (and even some pretend hindus) wearing our symbols on their clothing (including pants) and bags and then going off clubbing or eating meat etc.

So please don't do anything like that

Who else is scared of laboratory instrumentation?
H

Half of the time the robots were broken and couldn't be used :S

Who else is scared of laboratory instrumentation?
H

Not robots as normal people would envisage them i.e a 6ft tall man of steel. I say to him "synthesise this compound now" and he does it.

Who else is scared of laboratory instrumentation?
H

When I used to work in the lab, I used to scared of the robots that the company owned, mostly because I was scared of breaking them and I would end up paying the company forever.

One of them (liquid mover thing) used to move so fast, I got worried that it would take my head off if I stood too close.
