Thanks. The marker was a stand in person, I didn't know them before the presentation or their work. The feed back from the marker is final, I asked. I can not discuss comments with the marker. I was planning on audio recording the presentation. I wish I did as it OK to do this, at least for developmental reasons.

Hi, I recently had to present my research - where I am so far for my masters. It was marked by two markers. They both gave me feedback. One of the markers wrote some feedback and one of the comments I don't agree with. There were only a few comments on this markers feedback sheet.

I'm not sure what to do, I do feel misunderstood and I don't want to be walked over. I want to stand my ground so to speak. At the same time, I don't want to annoy anyone. I'm self-funded.

Does anyone have any suggestions on this? I expect this sort of thing is not that rare.

My subject area is disability (social science). I am hoping that my MRes could be considered similar to an MPhil, like a trial run. That I can go straight to PhD and not need to do an MPhil. I've done quite a bit of research skills training. I need to get a good grade. Then I could possibly do the PhD in 4 or 5 years part time may be.

Yes, a total of £25K I think. I see some universities charge around £2k per year for a part-time PhD. Some charities will fund a final year PhD student. So I think it be is doable.

I know it''s not the ideal but I am looking to research my own idea rather than apply for a PhD which has already been partly designed. I know some universities will fund students own research ideas. I've missed the deadline for funded PhD's starting in Oct 2017, I was too caught up in writing essays for my self-funded MRes.

So it's a case of either doing a self-funded PhD, Oct 2017 entry and applying to charities for funds. Or waiting for new funding rounds in 2018 and applying then. Or a getting a PhD loan.

I noticed the following information on the web and wondered what peoples thoughts are on it? I haven't previously considered a loan for a PhD. But maybe it could be an option.

Loans worth up to £25,000 will be introduced from the 2018/19 academic year to help Doctoral students cover their tuition fees and living expenses, the government confirmed in its 2017 Spring Budget.

These Doctoral loans will be non-means-tested, and you'll be able to use them for tuition fees, maintenance or any other study-related costs. They're aimed at students who have lived in England for the last three years for a reason other than study.

I don't think your undergraduate degree matters too much. I know of someone doing an online masters degree at Oxford Uni and they didn't do an undergraduate degree. They just got onto the masters course through having a few years experience of working in the subject area.

I also know a professor who didn't do a PhD. They just went from undergraduate degree to masters degree, to researcher then lecturer, senior lecturer then professor. They have quite a lot of papers published (social science).

Hi, Well done on completing your PhD. Is your PhD connected to your previous role as a clinician? Something medical related. It sounds to me like you have lots of good experience which would be valued.

Have you been networking within your university, such going to seminars and conferences held at your university?
I went to one yesterday at my uni and met up with a few academics who do slightly similar research to me. I had not known of their work before yesterday. So there is overlap in our research area at my uni which is good to know and I wonder if this might be the case at your university?
I'm not sure I would write a publication with my supervisor.

I recently contacted my uni's student support and attended a group seminar on procrastination. It was very good and gave me strategies to use when I need to find motivation. I also got to see a coach on a one to one basis, about my aims at the uni and that was helpful. It open to all students at any level.

What about a Nursing degree apprenticeship. These are due to start from September 2017 and take 4 years. The cost is covered by the employer.

When I was studying for my undergrad degree I was engaged to be married. I still noticed the cool, good looking male lecturers that had similar interests to me, some were married with children. It must fairly common to admire people more senior at university and have a slight crush.

Hi, I can sort of understand what you are feeling. I fell in lust (not love) with a senior colleague at work some years ago. He was gay and i'm female but I still had these feelings, he was good looking and about my age. I had a good looking boyfriend at the time. Do you think this is lust with your supervisor? As he is in a more senior position to you could it also be connected to that too?

Hi, have you been in contact with student services at your uni? Do they offer a free coaching service? Some uni's do. Also you could enquire about DSA funding and seeing a specialist mentor once a week.
