Btw: I presented my pilot study at a conference!

Wow. Thanks!

If you present a poster at one conference does that mean you can't present the same or similar poster at another conference?

What's the difference between a conference paper/submission and submission to a journal article? When would you submit to a conference and not to a journal?

Thanks sneaks.

I've presented all sorts, pilot studies, general ramblings, you name it (turkey)

Seriously? Maybe I should think about presenting too then. The conference that I am looking at I think is asking for abstract, if accepted submit full paper, but then just present poster. If that is the case, does the paper I've written get published or is it just a poster presentation?

Using my married name

Gosh I hadn't thought of that. I am married but I haven't changed my surname. I do have plans to though in the future. Maybe I should do it before I publish ...

Yes you can use Dr name even if you change your surname. You are still you and have earned it :)

Hi all,

I'm confused. How does it all work.

Do you first submit abstract --> Then submit full paper --> Then just present a poster at the conference (or present it orally!)?

So what happens to the paper?

Confused! Thanks for your help!

:-)

PS. Has anyone presented their pilot study at a conference?

Content Analysis
H

Quote From sneaks:

I've not used content analysis. I have used template analysis which is basically pulling themes out of text and creating a 'template' - basically a hierarchical list of codes e.g.

1. Dog Expense
1.1 Dog Food
1.1.1 Dog treats
1.1.1.1 Chicken Dog treats
1.2 Dog Toys
1.2.1 Frisby

And so on. There is a really good website here for this http://www2.hud.ac.uk/hhs/research/template_analysis/ I think the main difference is that you (well not necessarily) don't count the codes, so there is no quantitative output. THere is an emphasis on that if something appears once in one interview, then it could be as important as something that appears 20 times across several interviews.

I have a good pdf book on qualitative methods if you want it - just PM me your email.

Thanks! That is a really good explanation.Would you say template analysis is better than content analysis?

I'll PM you my email, many thanks!

Hello, I have used eTaskman for my PM. It's also free and I use it to handle my task assignment. My lecturer advised to me.

Could you upload a picture of the interface? I can't seem to find one on Google.

Content Analysis

Hi,

Has anyone ever used content analysis? Could anyone recommend some resources I could read? Also, what is a very similar type of analysis methodology to content analysis?

It's my first time using it and I'm unsure as to exactly how it works ...

Thanks!

Chococake :)

Eeeeek- dilemma! How would you feel about this?
H

Do you think if you submitted early you will still pass with minor corrections? If so, go for it. When correcting your thesis, you can always bring it up to the quality that you originally intended it to be.

When presenting 'I' or 'we'
H

Quote From clupea:

You could take it from the point of view of the org you're presenting to - use 'I' if you are essentially the only person they will ever have contact with in a collaboration because then they will care specifically what work you have done (and possibly explain to sup why you're doing it that way to avoid the impression of ingratitude) but use 'we' if its the work of the research group as a whole that matters to them.

Great! It is only my work that matters to them ...

Business cards again (sorry)

Hi Cupcake
If you order only 50, and choose the royal mail shipping rather the courier, it is currently £16.19 - didn't think that was too bad for a really nice product, but maybe I just convinced myself that was reasonable as I was so taken with them!
Good luck with whichever ones you choose
Jane

Thanks! I'm not so sure about not placing my title, as people might forget who I am or what field I work in ...

When presenting 'I' or 'we'
H

Hi,

When presenting your PhD work at conferences or pitching the work to others, do you use the term 'I' or 'we'. I'll be presenting my work to an organisation that I/we want to work with, and my supervisor is coming along too, to give an intro about the whole research group. When talking about my work, should I use 'I' or 'we'? I've done 99% of the work myself but I don't feel comfortable not including her, because she does support me ... What would/do you do?

Business cards again (sorry)

Thank you Jane. Moo is great, but gosh they are very pricey!

Business cards again (sorry)

Hi all,

So what exactly do you place on these cards? Name, Job Title, University, Address (?), contact number, email address etc. Do you place your PhD Question too or just overall area? Does anyone have any examples they'd be willing to share?

Thanks! :)

Do you use Latex or Word to write up?
H

I use Word too.
