Hi, I'm writing up now, 4 months of funding left to go. To be honest my PhD so far has been a bit of a shambles and I need to pull some results together even to get enough to write up. But I need your help, please give me a prod periodically to keep me going.

Thanks! I did mean growing up in the general life sense though as if forced to be professional. Academically I grew up in my masters in that nothing shocked me after that. From what I've seen academia can be run really badly, I wouldn't let that put me off if I wanted to continue, but I think I would get greater rewards and likely a lot less enragement at people elsewhere when I get my PhD.

Anyone else feel like this? I almost feel like I'm coming of age in the process, no matter what I do afterwards. It's been a hell of a journey.

Do I find the news chilling? The BBC news website most definitely!

Basically you just have to get rid of the supervisor if you have problems like that. It's the only way I think.

I didn't think it was flippant! To be frank none of this even matters because there's the rest of life after the PhD anyway.

Well a bit over the top but what I mean is all suggestions are gratefully received, thanks.

I liked it up to a point but now I'm craving chat!

How do you deal with isolation in the just prior to write up stage? I'm thinking of volunteering for an hour a week just to interact with some different people.

Also, my supervisors have been very unsupportive during my PhD, including one who was an intellectual bully.

Agreeing one course of action in a meeting and then completely changing his mind about what that action was when I e-mailed a few days later to check.
