Thanks for the comments
I put it in as Exceeded subject averages for Teaching, Assessment and feedback, Academic Support, Organisation and Management and below subject average for Learning Resources (outside our control !) and Personal Development (and have then said why I think this is the case ad what actions I have taken to address this).
I think the interview will be 10 minutes presentation and then the rest of the time will be largely about the presentation (that way they will pick up lots of ideas of how to improve the score from people who don't get the job) beacuse the job is largely about improving student experience with a bit of subject teaching. I'm going to be specific about what bits are down to me as (in my industry days) I used to get really frustrated with people saying we did this and we did that - they are looking for one employee not the team adn so they need to knwo whether it was me or someone else.
Trouble is it is only a 0.5 and I ma the main breadwinner in our house so it woudl be a huge squeeze financially (although it would mean more PhD time and more time with family)
I've got an interview for a 0.5 job next week and found out yesterday that there is a presentation to do on improving student satisfaction, there are only 10 mins. I know this is a key aspect for many unis at the moment and some (including the one where the interview is) have had pretty rubbish results in the National Student Survey. The department where I work (full time) is really small - a team of 2 in a department of 10 and we (the 2 of us) had fab NSS results. Do you think it is Ok to refer to these good results or does that sound like boasting? I am going to link it to what we have done (and therefore what I can do at the other uni if they give me the job)
Was going to list the other stuff I am going to cover but then thought that someone on here might also be going for that job...
If you can find a university which still carries the print copies then it will be easy enough to go in and copy them. The other option is British Library via Interlibrary Loans which may cost you (depending on whether your uni pays for PhD students ILLs)
Huurah for Wally (although I did quite enjoy the naughtiness of it!)
Anyone would think that I didn't have 10,000 words of lit review to write (once I have read all the (legally downloaded) articles and books, nor a class to prepare for tomorrow, nor fieldwork arrangemetns to finalise, nor a lovely husband and two lovely children to go home to....
I have a good idea. Instead of asking can anyone get me a copy of an article, we should say can anyone read this article for me and make notes - then we wouldn't be breaching copyright or inciting others to.
And we won't upset eskobastion :p
Thanks Wally - I will sleep easy in my bed tonight ;-) I was so worried that I would be thrown in prison where I would have no access to journals so I could learn the error of my ways.
Of course I probably should check that Satchi isn't going to make thousands of copies of this amazing article and set up a stall undercutting the publishers and inter-library loans and make her fortune...
You aren't going to do that are you Satchi?
(Or at least if you are can I have a cut?:p)
How about having that one up your sleeve so that if they ask you you can whip it out? I got thrown in an interview once where they asked me that quesiton.
The other one I got thrown with was which books would you recommend for this course - you just don't know whether the one you think is dull and boring is their favourite becuase it is sufficiently academic and teh one you like for being lively with good case studies they think is dumbed down.
I am really pleased that your university will buy you any and every paper you want. Sadly we are not all in that position - some peopel are in the developing world where they are trying to break into research with few if any resources (I have researchers I work with in Eastern Europe (EU countries) who have no access to journals and no possibility of accessing them). Eand even when we are we can't necessarily get them quickly.
We are trying to create a community here where people help each other and when you have been around longer you will realise that those who are helpful get the most help back. Those who come on here and just snipe, criticise or advertise their useless "help" or essay writing services get ignored or worse. You may find that you will get lots of people reading your threads but not many replying. But you will be OK becuase your university will sort it for you....
Well I for one won't be rushing to offer Eskobastion any advice since s/he well and truly rapped my knuckles. Am just waiting for the day when s/he is desparate for a paper which i have (or even one that one of us has written).:p
