i dont think they can afford to move out unless someone rich gives them some serious money to do it.

sue, i think it is possible to do something similar for sciences. unfortunately, there arent many rich people willing to fund this kind of work in the uk.

I just did the HSMP calculator thing and unless you have 2 years of graduate work experience I don't think you'll be able to qualify under HSMP. You'd have to get an employment visa thingy.

If you apply for residency under the highly skilled migrants programme you will be allocated points dependent on your education, earning power etc. Hence, if you have a PhD and publications etc these will enhance your application considerably. Google "highly skilled migrants programme uk" to find out more ...

try the fulbright conmission or kennedy trust and investigate what financial aid packages that are available to overseas students at the US universities you might be interested in. Competition is likely to be extremely tough. Probably as tough as it gets.
