cc - reviewing other methodologies has really helped. one more paper to read and i can get down to coming up with my own methodology. am so happy that am making some progress.

thanks everyone for your advice, sentiments etc. am taking it all on board and hopefully i should see the light at the end of the tunnel not so long from now.

perhaps email them asking for a meeting, then email them the next day with questions you'd like to discuss in the meeting related to the work you are waiting for and say you're looking forward to the meeting?? make it look like you value their comment - that will give them a kick to keep up. i found that this type of blackmail worked with mine last time. all the best.

thanks guys. you're all so supportive. i've taken the better part of today off. spent the day printing papers, went to the supermarket, watched a bit of telly, spoke to a few friends. am now refreshed enough to have another go at it.

actually, i love it when my supervisor edits my work. it shows that they are interested in making it work - to say the least. i hate it when they don't give constructive comments i.e. it's not good - and no mention of how it could be improved.

you need to be more proactive in your search. invest some time on the internet and do a search then come back and discuss with us what you have found after your search - otherwise we can't help you.

this is actually a very common thing - i find that when i speak to advisors about my supervisors IN CONFIDENCE, my supervisors dramatically change their conduct and become better, or coincidentally reply the email i sent last month the same day. i have come to believe that student confidentiality is not respected in universities. its best to speak to an external counsellor. do you have a counselling service in your uni? they help you deal with how you react to your sups and how you can work with them better as opposed to changing them. this has helped me. maybe you could try it?

hi, am currently struggling with my methodology, i feel out of depth and unsure about what am supposed to be doing and i have to hand in work on monday. someone tell me that am not the only one working tonight?

one lecturer in my department one of those dodgy phds in a year after coming from MBA school. this lecturer had to leave as they couldn't live up to the PhD title that they carried. every law student knew more law than this lecturer and as a result this lecturer got very poor ratings and was sacked from the law school. so my advice is, if you wanna do a PhD, do one, don't just buy one - it's the process that matters, otherwise you won't be able to live up to the title.
