I want a new boyfriend

I meant literally "on the street". A cafe would be different: that's a safe environment.

Men who approach you literally on the street are usually after one thing only, and can get very aggresive when you turn them down. Therefore a lot of women are nervous about men who approach them in that way.

You ARE a weirdo if you approach women on the street.

Me too...my nightmare is that I have missed something really silly in my calculations, and that in 2 years' time I will realise that all my data is wrong

He clearly does have issues, and he was certainly sterotyping too.

But stereotyping of Westerners is far less prevalent and insidious as the sterotyping of Asians as potential terrorists: I understand your comment was not serious, but I can understand why Asians get sick and tired of it.

I'm old enough to remember the IRA "campaigns" of the 80's, and several relatives of mine have been the butt of (at best) jokes and (at worst) beatings for being "terrorists" - i.e. for having Northern Irish accents in public. That's probably why I'm not keen on this sort of joke.

Anyway I did not intend to be bad-tempered and I apologise if I was. I must have missed a few messages because I didn't think the thread was "heated" last time I looked. Perhaps it got more heated after that..

I didn't mention it before, did I not?

To quote myself:

"But a 3rd with work experience in the pharmaceutical field - even admin - is a different matter."

Yawn...

Both Loughborough; it was an organic chemistry course, apparently.

I think what swung it for them was that they both had a few years' industrial experience. There was also a senior scientist in a cancer research group at my current uni (not giving the name cos trying to retain a bit of anonimity)who got a third 20 years ago, but since then got a Masters whilst working in industry, then a full-time PhD after that.
So it's not the end of the world, but you do have to work hard to show a course leader why they should take you on - you probably wouldn't get accepted straight after graduating with a 3rd.

Welcome...and I'm sorry that your university did not bother to send someone to meet you and drive you to your hall. Not a great welcome.

You'll have made friends with your hallmates before you know it, and you already have all your Forum friends, of course.

Heh. I know what you mean there; every time I email my industrial supervisor, I get nervous about what his reply will be.

Right. I must be hallucinating my two friends with 3rds who got accepted onto Master's degrees.
