Just remembered: my department's statement is "Preparing For Caring".

I read an article the other week saying that people tend to do better at their work if they have an inspiring mission statement to live up to (such as Google's one about organising the world's knowledge). It suggested that people set their own statements to keep themselves motivated. Although it sounds like so much new-age psycho-babble, I keep thinking what my mission statment should be. Does anyone else (or their group) have a statment? Sarcastic replies welcome (and expected, we are mainly British after all...)

I agree with you there, Sylvster. Even if it we are not responsible for global warming, we're still crapping on the world in a lot of other ways. I can still get mad when I hear Bush's stupid bloody gob saying "The American way of life is non-negotiable."

Have you been to Sweden then, Chrisrolinski? How did you get on with the language? (clearly you had no trouble ordering a drink)

I didn't see the programme but I'm not convinced that humans are the sole cause of global warming ( though I expect we're not helping). Global temperatures have been fluctuating since the earth began. It always makes me smile when weather reporters gloomily tell us that this or that is the hottest/wettest/coldest season "since records began". Since records only go back 150 years, that's not really impressive.

I got an exemption certificate from the finance office, which was accepted straight away by the local council. No problem.

My old number was one digit different from the local taxi firm. I used to get assorted pissheads calling at 3am asking to be picked up from Brannigans. Once my (drunk) dad called asking for a taxi; when I told him it was me, I heard a mumbled swear-word and then he asked me to call him a taxi anyway.

I'm spending my (birthday ) weekend preparing for a meeting. Not that I mind cos I've been upstaged by a one year old.

I've had Stephen Hawking calling me trying to sell me cheap transatlantic flights. Worst thing is thye block your phone line so no-one else can get through till he's finished.
