The email said that the magazine is now going national, after being published in London for some years.

Was anyone a 'gifted child' ?

I think people develop at different rates, but maybe parents are (understandably) very quick to label their child as gifted. I think it's probably better, as you say, to keep the child within their school peer group; but that may risk boredom for the child if they are ahead at every subject (for me it was just the reading).

Born on the 30th of Jan? Let's take the day off today :-)

Sue: yes, I'm giving it a trial run but I miss fish. And the veggie option always seems to be cheese which I don't really like (fussy bugger, me). Don't want to end up putting weight on, at least fist was low fat, whereas cheese/humus/eggs (the usual non-meat offerings) are all quite unhealthy.

I wouldn't limit myself to journals (although obviously they're the best option). I've published short artcles for non-specialists: try contacting newspapers etc, they all have commisoning editors who will consider freelance stuff.

Also you could try this (as could evryone else on here):

50 quid if your submission is accepted. And I don't know if you all got the email about the PostGrad UK magazine in your student emails? They are also offering 50quid for short articles relating to PhDs.

I was supposedly identified as gifted cos I could read when I was 18 months old. I was reading adult books when I was six. However it flattened out as I got older and by the time I was in high school I was pretty mediocre (and so it remains to this day...behold my 2:2

Anyone else got a runny nose?
J

H, you may want to try the antihistamines. I had never had allergies until last summer (at the age of 30) when I suddenly was sneezing and eye-watering all summer long. Boots antihistamines did the trick; doc says hay fever etc can start at any age. Or it may be a dust/clothes fibre allergy (so I was told).

Oh my dayz how can they do this! I was just informed that i can't start my PhD this month ..........
J

The bridging loan that I had is a faculty fund set up to bridge the gap between a supervisor winning funding from a research council, and that funding actually arriving in the university bank account. If what has happened is that the funding body is delayed in paying the university, you may be able to claim bridge funding. Howvere your supervisor had to apply for that.

You need to spoil yourself (eat all your favourite food and curl up in bed with a magazine or a book)
