I always thought private sector would be better for having kids. I'm doing work experience at well-known large pharmaceutical company now and there are loads of women here that have extremely flexible hours that allow them to fit in with their children.
If you get married after you get your PhD are you still Dr. [maiden name] or does it change to your married name?
Turns out the informal chat was an interview, well kind of. The professor didn't really ask me any questions - not even "Why do you want to do a PhD?" but he did offer it to me there and then, maybe my references were really good or something! Anyway I'm starting in September, glad it was a lot easier to get one than I had imagined!
I saw an advert for a PhD at UCL, it didn't really have much information so I e-mailed the supervisor with my CV and asking for some more details. He then phoned me and suggested I go to his lab to meet the other students, have a look around etc. So, is this an interview?! I don't really know what to expect. Have been doing the normal literature searches on his name and lab etc but is there anything else I should be doing? Any tips for PhD interviews in general? Thanks for all the help!
Hi, I am currently looking for a PhD and after I (hopefully) finish that I would like to work in the pharmaceutical industry. I am doing a BSc in Pharmacology at the moment so what kind of topics should I be looking to do my PHd in or does it not matter as long as I have one? Also, I have a 6 month placement as part of my degree starting in February, would it be best to apply for 2007 PhDs so that I would be able to write about my research project in my application, as I don't have any other lab experience? Thanks for your help
