Hi everyone im nearly a year through and feeling a bit lost at the moment. I feel my research is way behind schedule and that its an impossible task to finish. I still feel out of my depth when chatting to my colleagues and supervisor event though no one has said as mcuh. Just wondering is anyone else still feeling this way or is this just normal.

If you have more skills than someone from a top 10 uni then you will get the position. So i disagree with you. I know quite a few freinds that went to polys and have got positions over red brick students. So it bloodyyy doesnt matter. Its about having the skill to do a PhD what they look for.

Hi, i dont think its that important where you get your degree from. I know i went up against people from oxford and nottingham and i got the PhD. I went to an old poly uni. Its all about your application/ CV and to get the correct skills in there they are looking for. Once you have an interview everyone is on a level playing feild in my opinion. Although a first class degree will certainly help doesnt matter what institution you are from. Although once again i did not get a first i had a 2:1 with 2 years research experience.

Hi rah, This is completely normal as i experience exactly the same. Its so frustrating but i think we just have to be bite our tounges and deal with it and not let it get us down.

I think that sounds good. Im having a meeting with my supervisor soon so im going to ask for a few day off. Then ill come back motivated i hope. Yes im still interested in my topic i just think im going through one of those phases. Im sure we all experience this. Being a typical bloke i just needed to moan about it!!!

Im PI**ED off im feeling like i can not be arsed to do anything and am not intersted in doing anything. I dont no why i feel like this usually im so motivated. Anyone else feeling like this? how can i snap out of it? I have been in for the last couple of days and just sacked my PhD off to mess about on the internet.

Sometimes you just need to accept that your application may be fine but who ever they chose to interview are just better than you. This may based on grades of work experience. Keep applying and eventually you will get one. Just ensure you include all relevant research experience, and try and tailor this to why this would be useful to a specific project you are applying for.
