Oh Okay. Thank you... In the websites, head of the department' mail IDs are generally given, and the research works going on in his department are displayed. But the details of the supervisors who have undertaken those research works are not being shown.
In such cases, Should I write/e-mail to Head of the Department???
Very True, I echo with the earlier reply. As an International student, better to limit the applications only for funding ones. Though number of funded PhD' are quiet few compared to the EU students, it takes time to find one. But there is no other option than waiting.
Mean while go with some research internships which may help you find supervisors who can get some funding if they like your work. I am also an International student and posted few applications through FindaPhD.com. Got a reply, and waiting for few.
Good Luck!!!
Hi,
I am an International student looking forward for a PhD. and have posted few applications too. As the competition is very high for international people to get a PhD with funding, I wanted to go ahead with some research assistance/ internship/research fellowship under any of the supervisors. Hoping that, this might help me find a PhD in the future.I have teaching and Industrial experience with a 1 1/2 yrs exposure as a research fellow in India while pursuing my Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering, which may fetch a bit of advantage.
Recently I moved to UK as a dependent. I am not knowing the sources of how to apply, whom to contact, whether to go directly to some university and speak to the supervisors etc.
If I get any of the supervisors mail id from University websites, Can I e-mail that particular supervisor if I could join as a research intern? Will that be taken negatively by them?
Not able to decide the mode of communication, I happened to post a request if anyone could suggest your opinions as you may be knowing quiet better.
Yes, because of your valuable suggestion my mind started thinking in a different angle. Am Trying for Ph.D. really hard. Hoping to get it atleast an year down the line. Parallely, will keep up with research under a supervisor or will step into academics so as to develop few contacts. Thank you so much.
Thank you for your suggestion, it helps me a lot. I have been looking and applying for fully funded with stipend research works only as I dont want to take risk with insufficient budgets. Yes, its very true that competition is very high for non EU students. Thats where I am afraid about getting any replies. Meanwhile, instead of being idle, am planning to work in some university or college as a lecturer, part time or somethibg like that, so that I will get to know some supervisors or someone who can help. But as you said I did not think in research direction so far. Thats seems a good idea, but how can I apply? Is there any portal where it calls out for JRFs(Junior research fellow)?
I actually have done Bachelors in mechanical engg and Masters in Cad/ Cam. Have 4 yrs of industrial experience and 2years of teaching experience. A lil of research experience in my masters for 1year as a junior research fellow. Everything is from India including studies. Now am in UK as a dependant. I observed that for international students, there are very less fully funded projects. Am looking to pursue Ph.D. But am afraid if I really will be offered any. Wanted to go with consultancy as I dont know much about universities in London, they have given a quotation of 1500£ which is not affordable and they dont even promise of a completely funded seat. "Findaphd.com" website was helpful. Any more sites through which we can apply?
Thank you all for the replies. It has been very encouraging. I have been completely discouraged. I will keep you updated as well.
Hi,
I have applied two days back for three different PhD projects, through this site. I have received a copy of whatever I have sent as an e-mail the very moment. Did not see any reply mail from the professor's so far. Generally how much time does it take them to reply back about our shortlisting. Or should I consider it as not considered for the post.
