lol Wal, thanks.
this is the closest i get to socialising, lol. im such a hermit! i havent left my house in over a month i think! i feel like i'm in jail, and i literally cross off the days on my wall planner lol and look outside my window occassionally.
well folks, i'm going to have to get off the night train now. i just finished chapter 4 hurrah! its nearly 3am, and i'm going to hit the sack. i have no more energy to work. so i'm calling it a day.
good luck with the rest of you that are still awake and working!
okay i am calling it a night .. just finished chapter 4. hurrah! :-)
now i have 4 chapters left.
tommorow i am working on chapter 5. which is going to take the whole day as the results are all over the place and written on paper -i've made the figures, but finding the right files will no doubt take time! hoping to get chapter 5 done by the evening.
because i was meant to work on chapter 5 today, i might have to work on the methods chapter tommorow aswell. but doubt i will get time. so i will just focus on chapter 5 tommorow and get it finished and finalised. i am behind schedule, but then aren't i always lol
==
okay see you tommorow folks. bye for now.
lol Chris,
i'm also jumping on the night train. feeling tired, so am literally lying down with my laptop half hanging off of me. with Maria Mckee singing in the background she has an amazing voice.
just want to finish off my chapter, so i can tick it off my wall planner! lol i'm not moving until its done, and then i gotta move onto the next one tonight. will have to take a coffee break between the two, a girl needs some reward and r&r!
Hi Ruby!! lol at your message, you always make me laugh! true true, there are limits indeed hahahaha.
and well done on the exhibition, that is great news, well done you! :-)
---
Armendaf! great that you're going to be working from home tommorow, hurrah ! i will be happy for the company.
and thanks for the advice, i did take a good long break, had dinner and watched my favourite show at the moment "lost in austen" i wish i could be lost in a jane austen novel, prefarably with Mr Darcy but played by Colin Firth teeehheehehe.
--
feeling sleepy now though, but i really want to finish off chapter 4, as Ruby said, its nearly done so i can tick it off.
so i'm clocked in for the night shift. i was meant to actually finish off chapter 5 today aswell. but thats not gonna happen, so will leave that for tommorow.
--
hope you both have a good night sleep and see you tommorow :p
no need to beg your supervisor, tell them to *beep* off (i'm so getting into trouble with the admin on this one)
:-)
seriously, no need for publications, examiners are going to assess your thesis, as everyone has already said, trust the posters below, they know what they are talking about!
focus on your thesis, make it as good as you can. dont worry about papers at all!! they took way too much time, much more time then you think. and where does it say in the phd guidelines from uni's that you need to be published. its just an explotive tactic by evil supervisors using phd students as slave labour!! lol okay i might be on the verge of paranoa, but i am allowed cause i am in the loony period at the moment, with 2 weeks left for submission.
i agree with Smiloden, you have PLENTY of time!!! don't worry at all! as long as you write and work on your thesis everyday, and get a schedule and stick to it, you will be fine. sometimes having too much time goes against you!!
nothing like a deadline to really focus your mind and get cracking with the essentials. trust me when i say this., one year is plenty of time. you can accomplish alot! what i would advice though, would be to set yourself mini deadlines. one year is so big and open its hard to know where to start and end.
so just work to monthly or even weekly targets. and try to set a deadline that is at least 3 months before your actual deadline. set yourself an artificial deadline.

i love your enthusiasm Pari, you remind me of Tiger! from winnie the poo.
----------
yeh!! i have finished the results section of chapter 4. its all finalised with figures and a few extra analysis, but cant think of anymore, so its done. it's good enough , as they say! will need another read through and final checks for grammer and table numbers and figures and other tid bits. which i will do later.
--
now to completely finish chapter 4, i have to proof read and edit the discussion i wrote last week. and then fix the introduction bit. and then i can tick off my list. and then after dinner move onto chapter 5.
--
i glued myself to the bed with my laptop for the past 5/6 hours! i'm bursting for the loo now, sometimes you just have to be really strict with yourself to get something done. i'm 3 hours past the deadline i set myself though! things always take longer than you anticipate!!

hope everyone is having a good day. (up)

quick question!
i keep swapping tenses, which is bad!.
so when i am describing my results and findings, present or past tense??
"Even though this difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.08) the trend suggests that the levels ..."
or ""Even though this difference is not statistically significant (p = 0.08) the trend suggests that the levels ..."
i once read that what is most important is sticking to one tense and keeping consistent. so i just need to pick one and stick with it, but cant decide which.
