write your dissertation first. thats whats going to get your phd, not papers, although papers do "help".
but it's easier to cut down the chapter and turn it into a paper, instead of the other way around.
trust me. my sups also made me write papers first and told me it would be easy to turn them into chapters. it is NOT!
i wish i had not listened to them, and instead worked on my chapters first.
TG well done!! you really deserve a nice weekend break, how sweet of your bf. hope you have a lovely time! and good luck with the submission on tuesday. i bet you cant wait till its all over, what do you have plans for next week after submission?
dont cancel that car just yet, i might still need it!! lol
Swantje, well done!! you must be so relieved. you did fantastic during the oral exam. you must reward yourself and relax now.

Armendaf, looks like its you and me now left in the running! lol at battle face comment that was funny :-)
but yah, lets blow this chapter 3 out of the water (or whatever the phrase is!) :-s
i just had some food too, now i have glued myself to the chair and will work for the next 2 hours and then take a little break.
i really want to finish chapter 3 today :-s
Minamina, thanks :-) WOW that is a huge amount of things to do in one day, i am impressed!!
-------
Sheena, thanks :-) yep, i woke up at 11.40am, haven't started yet, feeling abit hungry though.
that is great, that you wrote 400 words! every word counts trust me!
and i am impressed that you've been stuck to the chair since 9am, well done you!
------
Ruby, thanks for the kind words and LOL at the duracell battery bunny metaphor that made me laugh lol!!! and lol at final destiny of not becoming rotting flesh, i hope so! i keep thinking how good it must feel to have it done and just checking it through, so TG situation keeps motivating me to get there too hopefully by end of next week.
nice to have you around for company today :-)
------
Armendaf, what a great idea about your way of teaching!! because then the students are more motivated to learn, very clever indeed!
And thanks for the kind praise :-)
And you are so right!! no point in fussing too much about corrections, thanks for that. i needed to hear that, as i can get abit carried away!!
oooh good luck with geetting the extention!! i didnt know about the Dean's grace, what a nice concept hehehe.
My aims for today:
sort out result section of chapter 3
-adding extra analysis
(this is going to take ages, so i will start with this)
write discussion section for chapter 3.
---
well good luck everyone!!
feeling hungry, but i think i will do about 20 minutes or so and get the ball started and then get some lunch.
ps i love our little writers club :-)
i am clocking out for today. i finally finished writing all the content for the discussion section for chapter 4. it just needs to be edited and put in order. which i will do later on in the week. total words i wrote today = 2775 words.
but i am too tired to edit it and read through it, i need to leave it for a few days so i can go back to it with fresh eyes.
i'm so behind schedule though!! but must not panic, it just means i gotta work extra extra extra hard for the rest of the week to get all my chapters done!
tommorow i must write the discussion section for chapter 3. and must only spend a few hours on it. as i need to start sorting out the results section for chapters 3 and 4. they are such a mess!!!
tommorow's aims:
write discussion section for chapter 3 (expand on the discussion section that i copied from my first paper: spend maximum 3 hours on it, hopefully!)
sort out results for chapter 3 and 4, add additional analysis to both chapters.
must get it done tommorow, or i am in big trouble!
okay i am way too tired to do anymore work tonight. i guess i need to sleep to function.
goodnight and thanks everyone for your support and encouragement today, i couldnt have finished it without ya'll!!
:-)

Armendaf i am taking your advice! and i keep thinking i dont need to write about everything i have read and all the papers. because then my discussion section will turn into a thesis of its own!
thought i would come in for a quick update:
finished section 1 (hurrah!) total words written since the last time i clocked in was 930 words. i wrote for an hour and half. then took an hours break to chat to my best friend who needed some advice and i havent chatted to her in ages, so that was nice.
so total words for section 1 of extra stuff is now at : 2814 words. add that to the 2000 words written back in july, probably 1500 now, cause i edited stuff out.
approx 4314 words.
now i have about 2 sections left to write and probably about 20 papers left to comment on.
so now i am going to be extra diligent and try to write only 1000 words for the 2 sections. and i was thinking of adding another section, but i think i am going OTT now, so will keep it to a few sentences instead.
okay next aim: write section 2: 1000 words.
thanks for listening, i know its boring to read, lol but helps me to think out loud.
haha I am so paranoid that after even just an hours worth of writing, if i've clocked up like 1000 words i do a backup of that to an external harddrive and a usb key! sometimes word documents can go weird. its happened to me a few times so ever since then. when i've written a big chunk i save it and then give it another version name like
version 1
version 2
i do accumulate alot of files though, but its okay, you can always delete the older versions later on!
but it makes me feel better.
and that is a great idea about printing it out too. serious when it takes so long to write things, you want to guard it safely! you can never backup enough!
and thats a good idea about weekly backup of everything, to a dvd and external hard drive. i recently bought another external hard drive, cause i was paranoid the first one might break down. lol being paranoid is key to backing up
:p
okay i'm clocking back in. just went to my garden and walked around in the lovely sunshine, felt so nice. its amazing when your cooped up inside writing, how the little things seem like such a luxury! i realised i dont think i've been outside my house for a week! although the weather has been atrocious. the sun is hidden now behind the clouds, so i dont feel so bad that i've come back in.
okay i'm setting my egg timer to 30 minutes and i am going to finish section 1!!! grrrr :-s its time for war lol
THANK YOU Armendaf, i needed to hear that, to calm me panicky state!! thanks so much for the kind words regarding the writing. and you are so right! i have to focus and stick to the arguments and evidence and not to go OTT And try to include everything in the discussion that i have read. thanks for that :-)
Minamina, WELCOME! wow another recruit, today is recruitment day, great stuff!! good luck with your writing, and dont worry 7 weeks is plenty of time to get your thesis done!! as long as you keep at it. Like Armendaf said, post as much as you like as frequently as you like, i always like hearing about peoples updates.
---
well it's been 2 hours of writing, and my brain is now tired and is saying "no.more.words." i've reached the "ugh" stage, so i am going to take a little break.
in the past 2 hours of writing, i have written 717 words. i just need to comment on 2 more papers and then i am done with section 1, and i have 2 sections left.
okay break time.
hope everyone is doing okay. its nice to know, ya'll are working away. :-)
