desktop computer is still not working

because today has been a total washout. i have to cancel my friday evening off and i am no longer going to the lecture i wanted to go to :(

oh well. maybe there's some blessing in disguise i am not aware of.

i now have 3 and half days left to write 4 chapters.

hmm anyone have the power to stop time? i could do with that right about now! lol

thanks longway74, you're so right. i will just work on my laptop for the rest of the day. and try to fix my pc later on today. luckily i had backed everything up. i backup on a daily basis at the end of my working day. so thank God for that.

i am gonna take a little break and then continue working on chapter 5.

i am having a crappy day today. pc desktop computer is not working. so i have to work on the laptop. but because i am stressed about my desktop computer, i am not concentrating on my chapter 5.

luckily i had done my weekly backup and daily backups.

people i urge you to please backup on a regular basis. very important!

Maybe start with writing down the pros about moving to this lab abroad.

try to see it from your supervisor point of view, he might be worried that if you're abroad he wont be able to supervise you well. and who will be your intermediate supervisor on a daily basis.

i am feeling very stressed! my pc computer is not working. and i keep trying system restore

i am finding it very difficult to concentrate on my chapter on my laptop, because i am worried about my pc.

but as promised here is an update, from the "hour"
the "architect" did it's job, and i organised the results section, on a subsection level.

i am still feeling very stressed about my pc. but i will set my egg timer for 30minutes, and cut and paste the different subsections now and then correct table and figure numbers.

*sets egg timer for 30minutes*

okay guys, i am procrastinating, time for desperate measures, I am going to use my egg timer. i will set it to *1 hour*, and report back about what i have actually done!!

it's such a beautiful day!! my reward will then be 10minutes in the garden reading a book

anyways enough moaning! instead of staring at my pc wishing it to work, i should just work on the laptop.

aim for today:

1. bring in the architect and carpenter and transfer my 2nd draft version of results section of chapter 5, to final 3rd draft format. (I am just about to print it out so its easier to visualise all the sub sections and arrange it in some kind of coherent order).

2. 2nd draft of discussion of chapter 5.

3. 1st draft of introduction of chapter 5

I will report back when i have accomplished aim 1.

well its a slow day for me again!! ooooooops. i have honestly not done anything for my thesis. and it's already 4pm!! how did that happen. i woke up late and just been procrastinating! and then my internet stopped working all of a sudden. so i am doing system restore, which is taking ages!!! i am worried it is stuck.. so i am now sitting on the floor using my laptop. luckily i had backed up the chapter i was working on , on my usb key so i can work on it on my laptop, whilst my computer does its system restore thingy.

but it's so frustrating.i dont know whats wrong with my pc :(

and i agree, this forum is great, and it was such a phd life saver for me!!! the people on this are so supportive and encouraging!

might i suggest you join the acountability thread, we're all writers there. trying to work on our thesis bit by bit every day. check it out!

you log on, type in the aims you want to accomplish for the day, and then at the end of the day you tell us exactly what you did for your thesis. a sort of support group for writers and also when you know you have to update us with what you have done, it sort of gears you to actually do something!!

all your supervisor really just wants is some assurance that you will get the thesis written. so when you are armed with a plan of action, and a brief update on what you have done (you can even say some stuff is in rough draft, not fit to be read by anyone yet, but i will work on the next coming weeks and pull it up to first draft format and admit that although you should have been writing your thesis along with your paper, you put 100% attention and effort into the papers.).

i think when one is faced with an ultimatum thats when you finally realise, wait i do really want to finish writing my thesis. sometimes a deadline is all that we need to get our minds focussed.

alice and sheena have given you great advice, so not much more for me to say.

but yeh like they said, make a plan, a detailed outline of your thesis, a sort of thesis map, of all the chapters and sections and results you want to discuss in your thesis. and then just be honest with your supervisor and say you have been struggling with writers block, but here's my plan and my thesis outline. and i am determined to get this thesis done.

go in your meeting with confidence and positive thinking.
