Busybee, it sounds like you and I are having similar problems! But I am pleased to report that I have finished amending one of my analysis chapters so it is a bit more coherent now! I'm going to leave it alone for a few days now and start working on another chapter this afternoon, after I've had some lunch.

Sounds like you had good days yesterday - I had a good ish sort of day but I have a lot more to do than I originally thought which is never good! The scary thing is, I didn't think the chapters I'm working on now were that bad, but they need a LOT of restructuring and re-writing in places! Everything is so jumbled and all over the place :-(

What's worse is, I have two weeks left after today to sort my analysis chapters out, then I have to re-work another chapter which is by far the weakest I have written and will need substantial amendments! But I just need to keep chipping away!

So today I'm just going to carry on with where I left off yesterday, re-structure, re-work, re-write!

Hope you are all well today and working hard :-) I seem to be able to access the forum properly today again too which is good!

I'm still working on my chapter, my main goal today is to get the new structure set out properly so I can get the majority of the re-writing done tomorrow and Monday. This is going to be my life for the next 6 months! Ho hum, best get on then...!

You're certainly not the first or the last person to feel like this during the PhD - I feel a mixture of emotions as I come to the close of mine but I have learned a lot about myself as a person as a result of the experience. You are really close to the end now so you just need to make the final push to get to the other side. I'm sorry you've had so many family issues, have you told anyone at university about this? I'm quite sure you should have been able to take unpaid leave/compassionate/suspension etc anyway.

Keep going, you're nearly there! And come back here and moan whenever you want! It really helps me feel less isolated (up)

I think it's difficult to advise you without knowing what your university guidelines are, if you log on to your student portal and search for reference guide you should be able to find referencing guidelines specific for your uni. I would say the quotation should all be in one chunk, on one page, as it looks neater, but I don't think they're going to penalise you for it not being all on one page. I think split over two pages is preferable to a big chunk of empty page!

As for the table, can you have the table all in one piece but type around it? It doesn't matter if the table isn't directly below where you refer to it, many text books don't have the table directly after mentioning it, nor do journal articles.

I think it might be worth having a word with your supervisor about this too, just to make sure! They should know what is acceptable.

I'm doing ok today thank you, just catching up with a bit of washing before I settle down to work properly, we've had family staying with us this weekend (impromptu!) so I have a bit of a full washing basket, overflowing into the kitchen...! Hence it needs to be done!

Welcome to the forum! I think there was a thread about this a while ago, I think I may have asked a question a few months back regarding the use of microsoft word for combining separate chapters into one big thesis as my laptop at the time was struggling to cope with the size of the document! So that might be worth seeking out.... I know a lot of people use Mendeley too for reference management but I haven't (because of my rubbish old laptop!)

Other than that, I don't really use any other special programmes as I now have a new laptop which does everything I want to do really, I did download Kindle for desktop the other day for instant access to books which has been quite handy. I do quite like the idea of sticky notes though so thanks for mentioning that :-)

Ooh I'm not sure if this is going to work as I can't see any replies to the one goal thread, but here goes anyway...!

Hi everyone, and welcome Busybee too! The more the merrier!

I've finished proof reading now, I'm not sure how happy I am about the work but we shall see...! Sometimes I get chapter blind and find it hard to be objective about my work when I've been heavily involved with it for a few weeks, so that's why I like to have a bit of a break away from it for a few days to work on something else!

But the fantastic news is, I only have one more chapter to write now before I have a complete draft, hurray! Granted, the chapters will need a few re-drafts before they are ready to go but I'm really pleased that I've got to this point, I certainly never thought I would!
