I have tried, but they keep ignoring me! I even forwarded them the previously mentioned pictures of grandchild saying "I really don't feel comfortable with this" but nothing! I even know where they live, what car they drive and all their hobbies! It's freaky! I'm just astounded that someone cares that little. I'd be horrified if all my personal info was going to someone else!
That sounds great Batfink, a really positive meeting, so well done you! To be honest, I think my sups think I'm stupid most of the time! Oh well! It's really easy to get daunted by how much there is still to do - if I think too much about how many chapters/amendments I'll have to do between now and submission it does get my blood pressure going, so I just try to focus on one thing at a time at the moment or I'll go crazy! BUT! We'll get there!
Goal 1 is now achieved, thank goodness! So it's now on to Goal 2.
Hope your meeting went well Batfink (up)
Batfink, make sure you tell them how poorly you've been, considering that you had a nasty cold you worked extremely hard, much harder than I did! I will keep my fingers crossed for you!
I'm struggling today as I have more work to do on this chapter than I thought I did as I mentioned earlier and it's all starting to look the same to me now. My sup doesn't want to see it til the 12th March so I might just finish up the rough sections then put it to one side for a couple of days. I have plenty of other chapters left to get stuck into in the mean time!
So this afternoon, I want to get the following achieved:
1. Finish rough sections of chapter 6
2. Amend chapter 3, section 1
Hopefully I'll get there!
Again, I'm no viva expert but I highly recommend reading Crotty, M. (1998) "The Foundations of Social Research" as he explains concepts around epistemology and ontology in a way that someone pragmatic (and stubbornly so) like me can understand! It's not a very long book but it really cleared things up for me. Don't panic! You will be fine, as both Sneaks and I have said there are many threads on this forum that describe the process in detail. Take it one question at a time and you'll get there (feel free to log in around January next year and watch me melt down in viva prep though!!
;-) )
Supervision done - it was a positive experience so that's good, hurrah! Now to get on with my chapter... I just did a quick scan read and it turns out I have more to do than I thought, but ho hum!

Hi Sascha, those were just made up email addresses - they weren't my actual email addresses - but what you've done is better anyway, I don't know why I didn't just think of doing that!
I think Delta, I am going to just have to use my married name email address as I don't think the @.com person is going to ever do anything about it, *sigh*
Thanks!
*edited to say - sorry I didn't make it clear that they were made up email addresses - I would never, ever post my, or anyone else's real email address on a public forum. I tried to think of random aliases but I suppose there's always the chance those addresses exist for real. Sorry again!

Hi all,
This really is an "off topic" but I wondered if any of you have advice for me. My private email address is *************.co.uk, however someone in the UK has the email address ************.com. The .com person keeps entering my email address when they're opening new shopping accounts, problem pages, and I've even received their car insurance details to my email address! I've also had some very personal emails from friends of theirs which obviously I get very uncomfortable about! I've tried emailing them at various times to ask them to be careful when entering their email address and that I feel very uncomfortable about receiving their personal emails but to date they've ignored me. I'm also worried that if this person runs into debt, fails to make a payment etc then it will be traceable to me as she keeps using my email address.
Does anybody know what I can do about this? I'm getting married soon but I was hoping to put an auto forward onto my new married name address, but because I keep getting this person's mail I'm going to have to go through the hassle of changing my email address at all the various places I shop etc. I just find it really odd that they won't talk to me about it - I'd be mortified if my personal email was going to someone else! I also find it beyond belief that they continue to enter MY email address even after all this time! It's been going on for 5+ years now, you'd think you'd know your own email address after all that time! I've even had pictures of this person's newborn grandchild, cringe!!
Any advice greatly appreciated!
Good morning all!
Hope everyone is well today, I'm up early today as I have a supervision meeting this morning. I'm mainly going to be working on editing my chapter today, I still have an outstanding amendment to make to chapter 3 as well. I've not managed to do it yet due to the nasty cold I had :-(
Have a good day everyone!
Urgh it's all starting to look the same now! I can't wait to get this chapter finished so I can move on!!! It looks like a lovely day out there so it sounds like you made the right choice by going out for a walk with the doggy! Sounds like you've made great progress today so you should feel very proud!
I've done fairly well today, the bulk of the work is there, I just need to edit it now, phew!
Well done Button, doesn't it feel amazing when you've ticked things off your to do list! I'm still working on the same section of my chapter but I'm hoping to get it finished in the next hour so that I can write the second outstanding section and conclusion later on today. That will mean I can focus on editing tomorrow and Friday and hopefully start making in roads to the next chapter next week! Have a nice break now!
Hi,
I'm still a fair way from my viva but there have been many posts on preparing for viva, if you search for "viva" you'll find loads of threads that contain really useful advice. A number of users have gone through viva recently and they all posted great accounts of their experiences. I'm sure some viva veterans will log on at some point and put your mind at ease! Though I sympathise with you as I'll be a nervous wreck before mine! Good luck! (up)
Morning all,
I hope Batfink is now safely tucked up in bed - I've never pulled an all nighter before because I can't function without sleep but it sounds like it was a productive night!
That does sound busy Button, but like Batfink said, one thing at a time and you'll get there. Think how good you'll feel at the end of the day when you can tick off all those activities! I've been doing non-phd related admin this morning like paying bills (groan!) so I'm going to settle down and do some work now. Have a good day everyone (up)
Gosh you're up early or I can't believe you're still awake! Hope you're feeling ok today & not too tired, I think you deserve a nice long sleep now!
Hi Batfink,
I've not been working today as I've had the headache from hell (hang over from cold I think) but I was thinking of you! Good luck getting it finished, you've certainly worked very hard! I'll be back on tomorrow :-)
