Minor corrections awarded following resubmission

calling supervisor at home
M

She has given it to me personally, when she invited me to her house for dinner - ages ago; but I still hesitate to call her, although my matter (some references I have asked for) is a bit urgent.

calling supervisor at home

Is it acceptable to call my supervisor at home? He almost never answers the phone during office hours.

Research that has many references vs. limited references?
M

I used very many references in my thesis, because I did not want to be blamed for plagiarism. When I was asked to R&R I was asked to reduce the number of references.

leave of absence
M

Any of you on leave of absence, especially when writing up you PhD or on 'awaiting submission'? How supportive is your university when on leave and overall, are you happy with being on leave? Have any of you gone on leave while waiting to resubmit? Do you still see your supervisor? Do you have access to the library? How come you got a leave of absence and not an extension? A very confused me (sprout)

What to wear for viva?
M

I wore the same clothes I wear to job interviews. Plus, my lucky charm.

Revise & Resubmit
M

Hello. I am one of them who have to resubmit. It is extremely traumatic. It took me about 3-4 months feeling like a zombie out of depression and loss of confidence... but I am doing some serious work on my resubmission, I am giving my own personal fight. It happens much more than you think. At least 3 co-students from my department have received the same outcome in the last year or so. All it requires is stepping your food down and saying 'I can do it' and never give up. I know the feeling about the family. Just remember: we are not superhumans! We are learning, evolving, progressing. We will get there in the end.

Waiting for examiners verdict (post viva)
M

I can feel your frustration and I do hope they hurry up and give you some great news. The delay is probably due to an administrative issue.

What is it like to work through your second language
M

English is not my maternal language and I have struggled to write my thesis, but I know you can do it. My advisor is German, teaching in the UK. His English is not great, but he is very good at his teaching and research.

First PostDoc interview!!
M

Stay strong Pineapple. Similarly to the PhD searching for a job requires plenty of perseverance. I am sending you some positive vibes.

PhD - is it worth it?
M

Coming to the end? I wish! So far it has taken me 5 years and I must resubmit. However, overall, it has been a neutral experience for me. What really hits me is the stress. I could do without it :)

Do you use any software to manage your work? e.g. Gnatt Chart?
M

I use my tomatoes and the pomodoro technique. Very effective and I didn't have to install anything.

Waiting for examiners verdict (post viva)

Good luck Pineapple. Thinking of you. May I also take the opportunity to ask you a question? How much was the internal examiner involved in your corrections? Did he actually see the progress of them? At least unofficially? Mine does not even care...

committee meeting on Halloween was ghostly
M

While you have to take the comments of the committee very seriously, truth is that the committee are trying to push you to do your best no matter what. The answer is simple'; work very hard and prove them wrong.
