I am sorry to hear that, but you may be too harsh on yourself. If they dont think you got the potential to complete the PhD programme , they would not have passed you . Also why look at the negative prospect , I am sure there are some positve comments as well . Be postive

I just dont understand why people are so inconsiderate towards other. Why cant they just listen to it using their headphones , is not like anyone else wanted to hear the music as well.

When I get stressed out , I hear noises ! (ambulance sound ;weird or wjat )

Hi ! I am also starting a phD in October as well, my supervisor have already gave me a few papers to read to familiarise with the area of research. (most of them were actually his , maybe he was showboating as well). I already have a brief idea /plan of what I wanted to do in the lab for the first few months; so comes october , hopefully I would get my little space in the lab (I already know where I wanted to be base in the lab) and crack on with some experiments . (May need to ask the techician to order a few specific materials as well beforehand !! )

My supervisor also told me he would get most of the papers I required as well so I dont have to waste 4 months in front of computer searching for papers like most 1st year phD student. Well thats what he told me anyway but we will see in October if he have kept his promise

I thought they will fund the year of the writing up as well, thats what I am on . 3 years funding, 2 (and a half) years in the lab then write it up in 6 months . plenty of time !

We are all here for you BHC. There is no way that you , sarbina and Katy can work in the same department after the incident . This girl have threaten you and I cant believe she is still here . Just because she is on a more prestigious sponsorship doesnt mean that she cant be expel. It look like that your PI is weak and all about the money !

My whole department is still waiting ... working as a techician at the moment and I told alot of people about this story (post docs , PhDers , Masters student , supervisors ).. they simply cant wait... everyone is glued to the screen ..and all the experiments in the department are halted since 4pm

At least your supervisor show he cares and thats good !

Well done BHC . Finally some justice .. I been following this story and I am amaze by how competitive the research environment is . I always thought this kind of things only happened at Cambridge /Oxford (maybe Imperial as well) . Anyway you ever know what people are like , some of them pretend to be your friend to get closer to you so they can savage your work . Some pretend they are dumb and trying to get all the help they can ..and in fact they are ahead of you in the project. Some just want to destroy your work by contaminating the reagent you use and some just competitive and reptitively asking you where you at and what you are doing today !

Is sickening ! BHC have fun tomorrow .. Lets hope Katy get kicked out and never allow to step into research ever again !

I had an PhD offer there ! I wasnt that keen to be honest with the university. What's with all the refurbishment ,the building and the lab was not as great as I thought it going to be..
