Hi Keep_Calm, Hope you made it through today's class ok. Mad as it sounds I've found the 'Feel the fear and do it anyway' book really good and the little book of confidence for a quick 'pick-me-up' before heading to the class. With time and effort I got control of my teaching/presenting nerves. Of course, then I let things slip for a year or so and get really nervous now when I have a presentation, seminar or important class (like supervisor watching). So I've taken out the books again and already things are improving once more!

Best of luck with mastering your nerves. They are YOUR nerves and hence you can have complete control over them. Rescue remedy is great for the physiological aspects and maybe nightcalms to ensure good nights sleep before the day :)

I tend to like names that are simple but uncommon and sound pretty. Really like Alanna, Sorcha, Felicity, Beth, Ailise. and of course Luna is lovely.

Hooray I'm a super geek 50%. I am studying maths though so not unexpected.

Just thought I'd update to say that it went fine. Not great, not as good as usual (as my sup pointed out), but fine. Just so glad it's over!! Thanks for all the ideas and support. Really helped me through the last really hard hours.

They're not so much interested in my progress or timeline as in the actual maths. it's a little scary!

some clever ideas there :) unfortunately being mostly pure maths i have no graphs, no results and no analysis. hmmn plan slide sounds good though :) I was thinking working out on the board means what i prepare will last longer and also save me typing time. Not sure though.

it's the annual phd student to department seminar on my work. scary. thankfully the scariest people aren't very good at showing up to these but the guy in charge of my funding will be there which isn't good.

So I've 24 hrs to prepare a seminar and I'm so stressed i just keep watching the Big Bang theory. I've had three weeks but my supervisor has been making me work insane hours to keep up with the new project i'm working on i've had no time to prepare the seminar on the old stuff i've not looked at in ages. not even sure i have enough to make up an entire seminar and I just can't decide what to do or get started. Sorry for the panic rant - just needed to make the admission.

Rescue remedy is the cheese! Often feel like this myself. we just get so focused on something that it feels like the end of the world if it's not perfect. Cue major stress. I've had this happen when trying to get myself to ask a question in a seminar once. Didn't even get as far as asking the question, had to head for the bathroom. Nerves are mad.
