First goal of the day done: baked 27 scones. :-) Next goal: doing some PhD-related work...

Old, Old Transcript - How to get?
M

I couldn't find transcripts for my first degree (1993) or my masters (1994) when I applied for the PhD last year. I phone myfirst university and they sent a copy out within a few days. With the masters university I had to 'apply' for a copy online and they stated it would take several weeks, but it also arrived very quickly. They should be able to do a duplicate. Good luck! :-)

Is it bad to take a "year off" after MSc and before PhD?
M

I took 15 years off between finishing a masters and starting a PhD (in an unrelated discipline). :-) I guess it all depends on what you do in the meantime - having some relevant practical experience could be an advantage. I also think it's good to get back into the 'real world' every now and then. :-)

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Good morning. :-) I'm at the office today and hoping to get lots of work done! I finished the first draft of chapter 2 and emailed it to supervisors on Monday, so now it's on to chapter 3!

First goal: getting together references for first section.

Should I go for it?
M

Go for it! It sounds like a great opportunity. :-)

10 tomatoes is great, Pinknumbers! (up)

I have finally finished a rough draft of my first literature review chapter (there will be another one). And ... it's far too long. :-( 14000 words, when really it should only be around 10000, max 12000. I haven't even fully written the introduction and conclusion yet. I'd better start cutting some words!

Last goal of the day: cut 400 words.

help with a little German phrase...please....(German speakers)
M

Quote From chrisrolinski:

I am currently adding the non-English lit to my introduction and I am unsure about one word for the German literature. Am I using "haltung" correctly?

"Die Haltung exotischer Wildtiere im 18. und 19. Jahrhundert"

Is "Haltung" better here as the English "presence" or "place" - the distinction between the two is small but subtle...any help...

"The place of exotic wild-animals in the eighteenth and nineteenth century"

'Haltung exotischer Wildtiere' means 'keeping of exotic wild animals', rather than presence or place. What are you aiming to say? 'The place of exotic wild animals' as in their importance, or more in a more practical sense (e.g. keeping them)? (I hope that makes sense!)

I've given up on section 2.4.1 for now ... I'm going to focus on the next section for now, it's almost there already. But first: a walk. :-)

I have two days to myself (no kids, no husband), so should be able to get lots of work done! :-) Just as well, as I'm supposed to finish this chapter by tomorrow...

First goal: find relevant papers etc for section 2.4.1.

First goal completed, now working on next section (and feeling thoroughly lost).

An early start for me today and I'm hoping to get lots done! At least I can be safe in the knowledge that none of my PhD goals today will compare in awfulness to the first task I had this morning: clearing up dog xxxx from the kitchen floor... :-/ (why is there no vomiting smiley?)

Anyway, on to more pleasant things: section 2.3.3. :-)

Finished section 2.3.2, outline done for 2.3.3. Next goal: (re-)write 2.3.3.

I do have some Galaxy somewhere. I put it in a safe place yesterday. Can't remember where. :$ I'm getting old. :-(

Finished first goal. :-) I've got more done already than I did yesterday... And I've got Galaxy! :-)

Next goal: section 2.3.2.
