It crossed my mind that the Bleak Towers could be part of a Towers consortium...perhaps inspired by the ***Tower*** itself, the Tower of London ( although I think that Bleak Towers is a poor imitation of the real deal). But across the Thames is the shiny new Chic Towers--a penthouse development perhaps---not to be outshone by the 1980's development of Sleek Towers just the other side of the Thames. And if you lived in Coventry, well, why what else would there be but PEEK Towers, a nod to the famous citizen, Peeping Tom...

I have a case of the homesick blues!

Weird...spent all day trying to think of this particular song...from about 2000--could not think of the artist, or the name of the song, but a few of the lyrics...and I turn on my internet radio---and there is is!!!!!!!! Beth Hart LA Song-- how weird is that??!!!! It belongs more properly in my list of homesick blues songs, but anyway!

I have been consumed with locating the right internet radio station. I can only get a limited number to play for whatever reasons... the lack of music is making me stir crazy, it is so hard to work without it! I am about to see if I can actualy make a connection with the all Bruce Springsteen station!

I can't say having or not having children have impacted my career that much up until now--what had a lot of impact was a personal choice to work in access to justice/poverty law sort of settings where the pay would never be large, but the work satisfaction would be. Sometimes I think I would not be doing the PhD if I had had children--but its hard to know that for sure, either. The same values that made me make the career choices I did would have also informed my parenting--so I am not sure I have had any advantage ( so to speak) in career by not having children.

I can understand how you feel Smilodon--why have a child and then have them raised in a child care centre and you never see them? This was a major sticking point when I was married in discussion on hypothetical parenting--I did not want to work when my hypothetical child was small--certainly not full time--and there was no need for two incomes. I realize that sometimes a parent does not have a choice about working, it is an economic necessity. I would have gladly stepped off the career treadmill to stay home and be with a small child, perhaps going back to work part time or more once the child was of school age.

For me--a mix of places. The library when I need to get stuck into something for a couple of hours ( but no more--coz like Xeno said, no drinks and no tunes!). When I WAS home..that is in the US, home was an ideal place to relax, listen to Youtube, do editing and typing, and my local coffee shop the place I took myself when I was really not in the mood, but needed to study anyway--tunes, drinks, food, but able to concentrate and get done without the distractions at home. Now I work at the university nearly exclusively--to greater or lesser effect. Bleak Towers is so bleak that I avoid it as much as I can, and have only studied there once or twice because I was desperate to get something done and tired of the university.

OF COURSE the person who cheats is responsible and of course it is their fault and if they are unable to resist the temptation of everything in a skirt ( or pants or whatever) that wafts by, they haven't got any business being in a relationship of any sort.

That line of thinking at its worst invites rape, date rape, etc, and declares the actor ( esp. when male) not responsible. I do not subscribe to the view that all men are unable to resist temptations and cannot control their impulses. If this is true, people who are so impulse prey belong in a secured environment where they will do no harm to others.
