Feelings of quitting
O

I think I am definitely in the minority of having a great supervisor--but I too have days when I think I could just walk away from it all. My struggles are about being away from "home"--its nothing to do with England, per se, I think I would be feeling like this no matter where I had gone--its just hard to be away, and it feels like I have given up so much to be here to do this.

Other great post colonialist stuff, albeit a bit legal, is in some anthologies of "Critical Race Feminism Theory", which is a branch of critical race theory, which branches off from critical legal studies, which branches off from critical studies... if you google Critical Race Feminism you will come across some different references--all interesting stuff, though its largely Americans who seem to use and apply it.

Post colonialism--no doubt you have read Homi Bhaba and Edward Said, sort of the staples for that area. Smith has a brand new book I just pre-ordered, it should ship out early next week. Connor Walker is another nationalism ( as in nation building, the nation state) writer, that is a staple in the field, though I have not read much of him. Have you read Alex de Tocqueville---not a post colonialist, but did some writing on the American frontier and the formation of the state and its interaction with the frontier, its still relevant reading today, I think. Are you interested in nationalism in particuar or more generally in post colonialism?

One of the best academic writers I have read is Anthony D Smith that writes on issues of nationalism and national identity--which is not my discipline, but something I am looking at across disciplines. His writing is very conscise, interesting, easy to read. He uses technical terms, but not without adequate explanation, and without melting down into a pile of jargon gibberish. I think he sets the standard for solid, good, clear academic writing in any field.

Those prices do give one pause...at least on a student-y budget. It is a choice I fear between the new book I really need to buy ( at about half the price of a hair cut!) and better hair...

I hate to even ask this..but are there less expensive options, like with trainee hair people at a beauty school? Is this safe?

The all over number two would be a drastic change from my you can no longer see my face my fringe has overgrown look. Perhaps something less...drastic! Besides radical hair changes might frighten trout, and that would make getting breakfast difficult.

Why on earth would you want to do that?

Here is another one for smoked trout frittata, a sort of unusual twist for trout!

I think that this also could make a very interesting and hearty trout breakfast!

OK, here is a trout recipe that would actually make a good breakfast! The trick, as the recipe says, is to use the smaller trout, like the little rainbow trout ( the mouthbreather trout is a no-no for breakfast!)

With some fresh eggs, bacon and some biscuits--OH! This is making me hungry.

Double chocolate chip trout? Fish at breakfast time just does not sound very good!

OK--I have now reached those crisis hair moments--eventually, I am going to have to face the terrifying ordeal of ***having someone new*** cut my hair. Beyond this, though, I have some rather silly sounding questions about this---but here they are nevertheless---
What is the usual "thing" people ask for when they go for a haircut? Is it just a cut, or do you ask for it to be styled and blown dry as well? What do you call this when you ask for it--in the US, this would be "cut and style" but not sure that the phrases are the same.

What is a typical price to expect to pay--not top of the range beauty salon, but somewhere that is going to do a competent job on your hair? Do you tip? Who? How much???

Thanks to anyone who can offer some help--these questions have me frozen, unable to take that next step and get some hair help!
