Sleepless in Singapore (not really, rather in GB)

Anybody else having serious insomnia? No full moon tonight yet it is impossible to fall asleep. Three more hours until my alarm rings, I hate it.

online communities/networking..am i the only person in the world to not have joined one?
O

It's really a dilemma. On the one hand I would really like to join (just received another invitation today - "XY invited you as a friend", although I don't like the fact that XY gave my email address to Facebook without asking me first if this is okay). On the other hand I don't like the negative factors as mentioned above. Which makes life really difficult because if it is true what everybody is saying, i.e. that traditional emails are soon out of date and rarely used, then I wonder if I will lack social contacts...

And most users don't or forget to change the security settings, as an action is required to do so. Plus, it takes up to six months until these changes will be reflected in your Google profile, i.e. if you change it in two weeks time everybody can still see your information in Google for a few months.

Well Sylvester, it's not as much nonsense as you think.

"and you might well wish to consider whether you'd like to work for an employer that probes your private life - I suspect very few will),"

I suggest a reality check. EVERY employer these days (except in the chips shops, maybe) will type your name into Google. It's a common procedure.

UK flat hunting tips and average prices - advice and experiences?
O

Truth is, when it comes to noise flats are almost always a bad option as you can't choose your neighbours, people often move out and thus the possibility exists that new, noisy neighbours move in. Plus, with developers in the UK being extremely keen on profits and not caring much about the buyer/tenant's quality of life, you will often find low building quality, in other words, walls and ceiling are of a minimum quality as these flat blocks have often been build within two years or less and satisfy the minimum requirements. No stone walls between flats, just thin layers of woods between rooms etc.

Therefore, to answer your question, a (detached) house is perhaps a better option, at least in most cases in this country.

Anyone using wiki for research?

If you are referring to "Wikipedia", then no, this is not a trustworthy source of information as content is not created by experts.

Ever done anything as emabarrasing as this?
O

Your 90-year old nan knows how to operate a mobile and how to write texts? Mine certainly doesn't even know what a mobile phone or computer is.

what does 2(i) and 2 (ii) means?
O

Validus, it is unlikely that your question will attract a response from the original poster as a period of nearly two years has passed since the enquiry has been created.

Just today facebook has been opened to Google etc.

In other words, in a few days you will be able to type a real name into google and you end up at the facebook entry of that person - without having to sign up. This means that every future employer can type in your name into google and end up on your facebook website, where you might not be represented the way you want to be. Therefore I would think twice before signing up.

On the other hand, I just read a study which said that "traditional" emails are dead and the next generation of electronic communication will be exclusively over facebook etc.

This thread is very interesting as it demonstrates that the forum works with an automated programme to assign threads to different categories - unfortunately this categorisation is simply based on keywords. This thread for example has nothing to do with MBAs. Nevertheless it has ended up in this category as it contains the word IMBA which in itself contains the word MBA. This also explains why many PhD related threads end up in the Masters section if they contain the key words masters or similar in the headline. Well, just shows the un-professionalism of the responsible key personnel.
