UFO, I completely agree. However, I think it's not as negative as it sounds. Yes, it might be necessary to go for graduate jobs. On the other hand, people with PhDs are often only 3 or 4 years older, because many people do Masters after BSc anyway, and in comparison with other countries within the European Union, UK graduates are extremely young. Therefore, you may compete for a graduate job when you are 27 and most other applicants will be 22/23. But then, once you got the job, it will be much easier for you to catch up and to learn quickly and to gain status/respect/higher salaries., so you definitely WILL overtake 'normal' BSc graduates.

How about leaving the academic environment behind altogether. You've earned a doctorate, something to be very proud of. Nobody can take it away from you. You will be Dr BadHaircut all your life (and at least get the extra treatment at airports and hotels in a number of countries, such as Austria, where many people are obsessed with titles). So that's one thing. I assume you are still relatively young and as you did a PhD, I reckon you are able to learn quick. Why not add a little PostGraddiploma or certificate and try to apply outside the academic prison?

Having said that, I'm not usually taking the grudge for anything, so let's just all take our hands and be friends again. After all, we are all PhD students trying to get through this difficult phase of our lives and should be polite and helpful. So if I offended anybody I would like to speak out my apologies hereby.

Please, what I'm trying to say is that I'm not referring to PinkNeuron's personal situation or her case of homeschooling. I'm just trying to express my general concerns about the general issue of homeschooling. Maybe someone has different opinions and can convince me of the advantages, but there is no point in discussing if it's appropriate to discuss the issue at all. PinkNeuron mentioned the issue, maybe not to discuss it, but that's what happened by mentioning it. I did neither judge it nor say it's not here business. All I stated was my opinion. And that's legitimate as this is a public forum and she emphasised the fact that she is home-schooling. So all I'm saying is, homeschooling is crap, in my humble opinion. Hate it or love it.

I don't think you should write essays for students. It's bad! You won't be able to look in the mirror in the morning and you cheat on yourself as you probably worked hard all your life to be able to do a PHD. I hate rich students who buy essays and get a first as a result. Money rules the world - but not everybody's mind. You have a choice.

Apart from that, I wish you good luck and I'm sure you will soon see the light again.

No offense intended. As I said, I don't want anybody to defend anything they say, but if someone mentions something it is likely to attract reactions...

I don't know the whole story, but you emphasised the fact that you're homeschooling your children, therefore it is likely to attract some comments from forum users.

I don't know what you mean schools were "not up to your standards". What's wrong with "regular" schools? I generally dislike this attitude "I only send my children to the best schools". I think it's snobbish and divides society. Apart from that, children miss the best part of their childhood if they are at home all the time. It's important that they learn to deal with other children, for character building and also that they have some friends in school. In this case, it's not important if the friends are immigrants or are from lower levels in the society. But that's just my opinion and, as I said before, I don't know the whole story. But homeschooling is not be best solution, I believe.

Why exactly are you homeschooling your children?

D.B.M., M.B.B.S. - nobody expect a few experts know what you are talking about. Therefore your enquiry is unlikely to attract any useful advice. Why don't you check the requirements yourself on university websites?
