Because they want you to explain in more depth (than is available with a CV) how you meet the desired and essential criteria? To give you more room to explain who you are, rather than a list of grades..?

Well, I got a 2:1 LLB with a dist LLM and I got a fully funded PhD in law. I suppose if the 3rd was a while ago that might be forgotten by now. It's the 2:2 which concerns me, makes it too easy to just reject. But try.

It's a tough one - your results have been hit and miss (with reason, of course) and funders want someone who will definitely finish the PhD. If you have good experience that might help. All you can do is apply :).

You need to ask: is 'getting one over', so to speak, your supervisor worth not receiving a reference and joining the dole queue once you finish your post doc? Please be practical. Ask her if she wants crediting?

It means they haven't decided yet, still considering the application. These things take quite a while once the interview is done, and even once the decision is made.
