Looking for a funded Masters/PhD.. please help!!
P

Yes if you've been working in the local NHS that'll help a lot. Not sure whether you have an MSc? As AOE said that'll help, but you can get a PhD without a masters. Give it a go, you'll need to get cracking.

in the area that the PhD is in? If you don't have experience or some kind of things in your favour, you could easily be muscled out by others. But try anyway and see.

Of course you should take the plunge and apply - otherwise you'll never get it will you? Go for it and see what happens. To be honest though, I wouldn't get your hopes up, unless you have some kind of experience..

How to write a thesis that disproves another student?
P

The point is that you're not 'disproving' anything, because nothing is really 'proved'. You have found different results - you need to explain why. She could be wrong, you could be, you both could be.

How long do you expect your PhD thesis to be? (social science)
P

I think if you are getting to over 100k words you will have problems. Examiners will be sick / bored by the end, and will question whether your scope was too large. Have a serious think about how to reduce it.

The going rate is about 85,000 I think, that's how long mine will be. You should have a word count maximum set by the University though?

Law PhD

Give this a read: https://www.timeshighereducation.com/blog/ten-tips-help-you-pass-your-phd-viva its not serious but might out your mind at rest a little. The supervisors want to pass you, not fail you.

Corrections Question
P

Does it mean: You've said: 'see note XX', but note XX isn't the right source?

First 3 months in literature review viva?
P

I think it's great they are taking an active role (search the forum for people complaining about absent supervisors). And yea those 5 questions is all it will be, don't stress.

Is this common practice?
P

Most certainly isn't common practice. The only advice I can offer is that you submit the proposal (if that's what it is) elsewhere and try and move forward.

Restarting PhD after a very (very) long break
P

If you're connected, as it sounds like you are a bit, you give yourself a better chance.

Restarting PhD after a very (very) long break

Lots has changed in terms of procedures for PhD these days. Just ask the uni, but I'd been very surprised if they were to let you start again at writing up stage. Unless you are Brian May I guess?

Restarting PhD after a very (very) long break
P

I guess it can be done, but will be difficult. You'd need a new supervisor team, probably will need to do your experiments again? I think you would probably need to start again from year 1? (cont)

Leave job for PhD
P

The arguments in favour of doing a PhD seem good if you're getting the same money. But I'd ask again - do you WANT to do a PhD? The Dr title should not be the primary motivation, if you want to do it then do it.

repaying bursary after quitting phd
P

I'm sure that it is very rare for a University to demand you repay all the bursary. Think of it this way - when you quit your job did you have to repay all your salary? To be sure, just ask the Uni, each may be different.
