BigDave -thank you for condoning the 'power nap'. I feel much better about it now. I was so stressed out yesterday and couldn't believe I went to sleep rather than tackle my work load head on. But you're right felt much better after a snooze and probably made up for the time spent asleep in terms of productivity later. Long live the afternoon snooze.

who thinks that their department is...
P

We are a well-dressed department. Both my supervisors defy the dodgy academic bad fashion rule & are really great dressers .I have had female students of mine hang back, not to ask me a thoughtful question on the seminar topic, nooo, to ask me where I bought my dress. I can't afford to buy designer clothes but I have a few bits that were either gifts or I inherited and I expect this isn't going to win me any favours but I have to say the difference and superiority to high street is obvious. Better fabrics and cuts and the clothes tend to last and last.

I was given a beautiful leather Mulberry bag a few years ago for a big birthday & it is so well made that I think it is more like a 'bag for life' than anything I would buy or use from the high street. More economical & environmently friendly. I can get all my books, papers, teaching work in it, or use it as an over night bag. Its a style classic and will never go out of fashion - the bag equivalent of a lbd

I am 20 months in and have been quite lucky in the sense that I have enjoyed almost every minute of what I have done so far. However I had my 1st real Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr/Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh day today - just completely overwhelmed with workload + my PT paid stuff + family. I am proud to say that I ovrcame this in true research student style and ... went and had an afternoon power nap, rather than anything productive.

Born on the 30th of Jan? Let's take the day off today :-)

Happy birthday 404. Its nice to hear from you. I hope you have a lovely day. Its good to see there is someone older than me on here
(don't worry there is only 1/2 a year between us & 30's rule).

Have a great time & relax.

Is anyone else going to be glued to "Day 6" ?

Yey - I am glad there is at least one person, other than me Jen.

domestic disruptions, help!

I don’t think it helps but it might offer you some comfort to know that I have found myself in exactly the same boat. My bf works in the music industry/media and really doesn’t get the whole PhD thing. Although he tries his hardest to be supportive of what I do, there is always this horrible lingering misconception that I spend most of my time lounging around taking things pretty easy. Also because he earns a high salary and is paying our mortgage & covering my living expenses, there is a tension when it comes to domestic chores. Basically he does bugger all & it is left to me because I am at home & have a guilt complex about not contributing financially.

This is my favourite thread ever ever. It definately should go into the hall of fame.

Reasons to be happy that its January?
P

I always try to do one really nice thing at this time of year so I have something to look forward to, and importantly also have a little holiday in Jan, as I can't survive the UK winter & dark mornings - I need a sunshine fix.

I haven't been banned, I was sat in Jamie Olivers Fifteen restaurant all yesterday lunchtime & most of the afternoon eating yummy antipasta & drinking bubbley with my fella.

I am very excited about the return to Sky (of my other boyfriend) Jack Bauer.
Any other 24 fans out there?

Oh H you do make me laugh you're so caustic. You love your argy bargy don’t you?
As I said before I am not interested – it now seems to be you who has brought it up several times, and is being rather tedious. Perhaps it is interesting or exciting by your standards, but I hope not. Please move on
